Hi people, i was wondering how many replacement Pearls any of you been thru?

The reason that I asked is because I have now been thru 3 and getting one I guess tomorrow. The phone that I bought trackball came out, the first replacement screen had some blown lights, the second the trackball barely workes, and the third the screen was gray. Some of you may say that I am being picky, but I think that we should not have to go thru this much trouble.

I exchanged one of mine because it got scratched, but never had any issues with any of my Pearls.

what did you say was wrong with?

do you think its fair to have to get refub?

I have had mine since December and haven't had to replace it at all. I have some phone disconnect issues which i blame on the TIM OS update. Other than that I have a few scratches on the top by the mute button. I know a few people that have one and only one replaced and I think he just "thinks" it went bad.

Keeps tellin me to "insert sim card" when the sim card is already in...

I've had 1 replacement. My 1st pearl had a trackball that stopped working in the first few days. The 2nd one has worked fine for 8+ months in spite of some nasty drops.

well what is the process that cingular takes their customer thru?

I had one pearl replaced through T MO. I pulled my old pearl out of my pocket one day and the silver ring around the pearl fell out. Turns out that some of the little prongs broke off the back of the silver ring while in my pocket. I don't know if they were broke previously and just happen to finally loosen up enough to fall out or what.

I am currently deployed to Iraq and had my pearl unlocked without ever using the phone TMO network. When i called to try to get it replaced under warranty they told me that no other claims were made with the same problem so it couldn't be covered under waranty. They said something about how there had to be other claims with the same problem for it to be considered a manufacture defect. So I had to go the insurance route to get it replaced. I couldn't go the insurance route because T MO had no records of the imei # being used on the network even though I did have it turned on once or twice with the TMO sim card in the phone and it picked up a roaming network. But since no calls were ever made on the TMO network with that imei # they couldn't replace the phone under waranty. The even went as far as to say that if I tried calling one more time (I called once and got told no, then I called a second time to clearify my situation hoping to speak to an understanding supervisor) to make an invalid claim that the phone would be permenantly blocked from ever being able to be replace under insurance no matter what.

So I had to call TMO back and they basically sold me a phone for the sale price of $150 and would credit me back $40 once they received the old phone back.

Thats my story dealing with T Mobile's customer service. They are coming out with a cell phone lemon law so that might help you out.

I just don't understand this is the first time that I have had this much trouble with them in darn near 3 years, but I really wish it was somethin I could do.

I just received my first refurb pearl replacement. My pearl was going strong since last september then the battery door started falling off. Personally, I'm not thrilled about getting a refurb, but I'm just picky that way. I guess I will have to find the time to redo the OS & etc. Not to mention wiping the other phone. I also plan on hitting the search button for any differences between the pearl made in mexico and my first one that was made in canada. My Tmob experience has been really good about all this so far. I called them and they immediately sent me the refurb. I'm expecting a call back from cust serv to check on my satisfaction.

I've had to replace two phones myself. The first one had an annoying key which kept clicking each time i pressed it---and it was the only key. The second one I got had feedback and "echos"----like when a mic is held too close to a speaker---nearly busted my eardrum on one occasion.

I'm on my third now. So far so good. The ironic thing is that I was more careful with the first two as far as taking care of it. This third one I've dropped multiple times---first time was when I took it out of the box and it fell onto my kitchen floor. I've even stopped using the rubberized Seidio case for it.

But yeah I agree---the manufacturing of these phones is a little subpar. I've almost exhausted the rebate I got back through the shipping costs they've charged me to get replacements.

Oh well----I'm going to switch to the Blackberry Curve as soon as it comes out for T-Mobile anyways.

I'm on my third Pearl from T-Mobile and dangit if this one isn't getting dust in the screen too.

I would try for another one but after three I'm beginning to think they will all do that. Anybody else getting dust inside the phone that sticks to the screen?

I'm not picky about having a refob but the thing I dont understand is if someone else sent it in why send there problem to someone else? This is just crazy!!! Man when it come to paying over a hundred dollars for a phone when you are about to get a 4th replace I think that something really needs to be done and not trying to make you change phones either.

i was thinking about getting a refurb, cuz my space/0 button squeeks when i type fast, but after hearing a lot of these stories of bad refurbs, i think i'll just hang on to mine...for now (until something major goes wrong...*knock on wood*)

I just had to replace my Pearl last week due to the dreaded "JVM 545 error".
I received my replacement Pearl and it looks brand new to me. Are all replacement phones (thru warranty) suppose to be refurb ones? Mine looks new - although when I did turn it on, some of the settings made me think the phone originally was for the Europe market. The only difference I could tell was that the back on my replacement phone does not have the "5 Faves" logo...at least I think thats what that is. Otherwise, phone seems brand spanking new.

I'm working on my fourth. On all three before the stupid silver button on the back that holds the battery door in place popped off. Its too fragile.

so far so good with this fourth phone it looks better than anyone that i have had even my first one

I only replace mine once. When I lost my job and I end up sellling it. When I got another job, I decided to go for the white one.

i got my replacement pearl about 2~3 months ago. One fine day, the earpiece stopped working. However, the pearl would work fine on speaker mode, but you were not able to hear via its ear piece.

so got a refurb one... its working nice... no problems so far.

I'm on my 6th replacement, and my earpiece just went out. I guess it'll be lucky number 7??
