anyone know how to turn off the "smart dialing" option (where it adds the area code automatically to a phone number you dial out)?? I know how to change the area code setting but can't seem to find a way to turn it off. It's a pain in the *** as sometimes I want to dial various countries etc...

Have you tried setting the country code to "unknown"? I don't know if there's a way to turn it off...

Go into the phone app. From there, go into Options, then go to "Smart Dialing". From there, if there's an area code in the "Area Code" field, delete it and save. I tried it, and then tried to dial just a 7-digit number, and the network gave me an error...which it should have, because there was no area code added to the number.

Anyone who could help - this would be much much much appreciated!

I purchased the Blackberry 8300 in the US, unlocked, and it came pre-installed with the AT&T operating system. I installed the default language of English and the phone deleted the others.

Then when I went to dial the entries in the address book, it prompted to force a default area code. I used 1. BUT, now every number I dial has a one in front of it. Since I am using the phone internationally, it is making it impossible to dial any entries in my address book.

I looked in the Options area, advanced options, etc., and there is no mention of anything like smart dialing or where to set country code to nothing.

Anyone can help?
