I have the same problem with my Pearl 8100.
Yesterday I hooked up my Blackberry Pearl to my newly purchased Vista Vaio laptop using the USB cable to synchronize everything with Outlook. Ever since there is no volume on my handset when I make phone calls (with/ without being connected to the computer). The other person on the line can hear me but I cannot hear him/her even with volume at 100%. The ringer is fine. The speakerphone and bluetooth piece still works but evertime I "Activate the Handset" the volume completely goes away.
I spent hours with tech support troubleshooting this thing: turned it off by taking out the battery and turned it back on again, installed the latest handheld software, switced "Profiles", played around with "Options" menu.... but still was not able to sovle the problem. Now I have given up and have to opted to get it exchanged from T-Mobile!
I am on warranty until end of this year. I only wish I had purchased the additional insurance from T-Mobile during the first 14 days, when I had that option to do so. If it malfunctions again after my warranty is over next year, I will have to purchase a brand new phone again. I just bought this thing 6 months ago!!
