Just go to google.com/gmm on your BB. It will automatically select the right one.

Weird, I just tried that and it seemed to install correctly and does show in the advanced option as 1.5.1 but when I fire up the app, and do the help about, it shows 1.4?

Mine shows 1.5.1 in help. You might want to try and restart your bb.

hmmmm....gotta try it out. Maybe it will be good enough to scrap Telenav's $10 a month.

What GPS devices are you using with this and do they give voice enabled directions?

Look at globalsat BT-359, for an example of a bluetooth puck. There have been other models discussed on the forum. The 359 is small, simple and sensitive and has long battery life.

No voice directions with google maps or BBMaps. See Stinsonddog's GPS FAQ for info.

I'm still a noob as I've only had my pearl for about a week. Can someone explain the difference between using Google maps versus Telenav maps which comes with the pearl? Are they essentially the same thing? If I install Google maps can I un-install Telenav maps? I'm not using GPS. Thanks for the help.

You got Telenav Maps with your BB? What carrier?

I am with Tmobile and I don't have Telenav on mine, just BB Maps.

Google Maps is just a different APP with different features.

The big difference I see so far is that with Telenav you can do Voice Enabled directions while you drive, with Google Maps you can't.

Google Maps does give you turn by turn directions though and they are pretty slick, you just need to read the screen while you drive.

Also, for me at least Telenav is $10/mo vs. free with Google Maps.

I just bought the BT-359 GPS the poster mentioned above (thanks!) and it works great with Google Maps, BlackBerry Maps and Telenav.

So far I really like both Google Maps and telenav, the deciding factor will be the voice for me and the $10/mo. If I decide I can do without the voice, then Google Maps rocks with this GPS! I actually like Google Maps better except for the fact that there is no voice.

I have Cingular and Telenav maps is on my bb, but to be honest I have no idea if I'm paying for it. How can I tell? I've only had the bb for about a week so I haven't gotten a bill yet.

Just to keep the forums clean and keep stuff in one place let's keep this to one thread. The following thread was started first:

Google Maps 1.5.1 w/GPS support

To answer the questions above:

TeleNav costs $9.95 per month. If it came preinstalled on your BB you won't be charged for it unless you sign up and get an account number and pin. You can do it through your carrier or through TeleNav directly.

Google Maps is free to download and free to use (aside from whatever your data usage costs you.)

See Stinsonddog's GPS tips and the GPS/Mapping forum for more info on GPS and Mapping.
