Default Message Box....Is This Normal?

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings Everyone,

First post here. Long time Treo user, and recently switched to the Pearl last week. This device really is a thing of beauty.

I was hoping you all could help me with determining if my message box is set up correctly.

I'm not a BES. I simply have my gmail account pushed to my device from the BIS. My question that I have for all you experts is this.

I have one message box that says Messages. I have another message box that says [email address]. Is there a way to filter just my gmail messages to the gmail box? Right now, it is showing up in both boxes. Maybe this is normal, I really don't know. Maybe I should just hide my gmail box, but I would really like the messages to be filtered or sorted to the specific box.

Any insight you all can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerod

All incoming e-mail always goes to the messages folder. Individual accounts (like your GMail) also go to a specific folder, but they always all go to the Messages folder. No way to filter that.

Thanks NJBlackBerry. I just wanted to make sure this was normal. Appreciate the quick response.

If you use a different theme (for example, T-mobile zen white) then you can view sms & mms messages in a different folder than emails. The "messages" folder still exists, and all incoming messages go there, but you can hide the icon and just work with your inbox and sms & mms folders.

You could also use a theme such as Zen that has a separate SMS/MMS folder and you can just stop using the "messages" folder.

Alright, I'm using the zen theme now, but don't see where I can separate the two. I still just see Messages, and my email account. Where do I locate the SMS/MMS folder? Any info you all can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerod

Another option for you would be to use the Gmail Blackberry app exclusively for e-mail. Then just use your Blackberry Inbox for SMS/MMS.

I think they're actually reintegrated in 4.2.0.

4.2.1 has the option to separate or not.

I downloaded the T-Mobile Zen themes. One of them has an SMS/MMS box. Looks good. Just don't like the purple highlighters.

JRoD_E,
If you upgrade your OS to the 4.2.1.66 in the sticky at the top of this forum you have the ability to separate/combine SMS and emails in the Message Options. A nice feature, really. Instructions and links are in the first post in the sticky thread.

Thanks John! I updated the OS, and deleted the vendor.xml file, but don't see any T-Mobile themes on my device. Should I have updated the blackberry.alx file before the OS install?
