Default Urgent, Please Help!!!! Unlocked Tmobile BB Pearl on old at&t wireless

Please Login to Remove!

I got a new unlocked BB (Tmobile) and currently using it on old at&t wireless. And I am facing a very strange problem... if I don't make or receive calls for an hour...my BB stops receiving any calls and henceforth all the incoming calls directly go to the voicemail (even though it doesnt loose the signal and shows GSM on the top right corner).

But if I make an outgoing call when its not responding to the incoming calls, it again becomes normal and starts receiving the incoming calls.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rav

First thing I would try is a battery pull.

If it keeps doing that I'd think defective or bad SIM card (leaning toward defective).

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Could be an issue with the SIM. I have a couple of users on the old 'blue' AT&T, and when I get them new hardare they have to get a new SIM, too. The old SIM won't work in the new device.

I have a "blue" sim in my Pearl and have had no problems at all. I would re-seat the sim.
When it is not working does it indicate any message on the phone such as "invalid sim" or "insert sim"

As of 7:00am this morning, Eastern Time, Cingular is currently experiencing a partial network problem which is preventing many users from receiving calls. About 30% of our Cingular users are experiencing this in NY right now.
My guess is that you're part of the outage, and the problem will resolve itself in 24-48 hours.

If you activated a new sim, I would lean towards you have a defective phone. See about getting a warranty replacement. Sorry to hear!

So let me get this straight, you activated a new att (cingular blue) sim, discarded the old one. THEN you also replaced the phone? Twice?
Then maybe you are not properly installing the sim, maybe not locking it into place properly?
You have eliminated everything that might go bad ie, you replaced the phone and the sim! The only other thing it could be is user error?!?

muzzman1, thanks for your quick response....

you are rite... I have done everything possible .... its still a mystery!!! If there is any issue with the SIM card installation why would the phone work at all ??? Why does it stop responding to the incoming calls only after 1 hour and 30 minutes (I found the time after many trials) ?

Thanks again for helping me out here ....

below your signal indicator you only have 'GSM' no 'edge' or 'EDGE' or even 'GPRS'?

edit: Also are you on prepaid by any chance?

Yes, it say only GSM below the signal indicator..

No, I am not prepaid... I have the old at&t plan...also Nokia 3120 works just fine...its only the balckberry which is giving the prob... again its a brand new unlocked BB from Tmobile .. I got it replaced too but still the same issue...

Does unlocking with someone's SIM make any difference?

Thanks,
Rav

Only having GSM suggests that you don't have a blackberry plan activated on your account or you need to call customer service and have them look into your blackberry provisioning. What you should be seeing is EDGE under the signal bars. Does it say data connection refused anywhere on your screen? That too would suggest that you don't have the correct provisioning or a BB data plan in general.

That's all correct, but is also completely unrelated to the OPs original problem.
This user is having difficulty receiving phone calls, which has nothing to do with a Blackberry Data Plan whatsoever.
A GSM signal is fine for phone calls.

The user has indicated that they've tried multiple SIM cards and multiple handsets, only to get the same results each time. This would strongly suggest that the problem lies with the provisioning on the account, or possible a service problem in the user's geographical area.
