Question key lock and standby - what's the difference?

If all I want is to make sure I don't place unintentional calls, but still get messages and calls, etc., is there any difference between these two?

On Standby you will still get calls or messages. The unit is similar to asleep in a holster

On keyboard lock you will your phone calls and messages as well, but will cause faster battery drain if not in a magnet enabled holster

Powered down will "awaken" only for alarm settings or an automatic ON setting.

... I think this is NOT right, I put on stand by my phone and I'm able to receive calls/sms'/emails/everything, the difference is that when you lock the keyboard, you can press by accident the "Emergency Call" button and it will dial 911, and if you put it in Stand By, you will not press that button because the blackberry is just in stand by, with the screen torned off... I use the stand by option when carrying my 8100 in my pocket

How do you put yours in Standby Mode?

I guess this is more a difference in terminology. Standby is enabled by pressing the mute button.

I meant above to be the "Powered down" mode... sorry if I confused you or the two.

Standby will save battery power over keyboard lock not in a holster.

i put mine in Stand By pressing mute and holding it for about 2 seconds, and again, I can still receive calls/sms'/everything and I don't have to worry about pressing any button accidentally, and also it saves some battery life :P
