I´ve just bought the new blackberry pearl and moved to another country. I have purchased the unlock code from my former provider (a1 in austria) and bought a new sim card in switzerland.
The retailer told me it is no problem to set up the blackberry without a blackberry data account - it seems he was wrong. I looked everywhere but could find no possibility to set up an email account only with a pop3 and smtp server. is there any way? please help

There is no way to get e-mail delivery on a Blackberry without a Blackberry Data Plan.

What is data Plan????

It is the service which you must purchase from your carrier in order to get push email, internet use, PIN messaging, data transmission, etc. Only the phone and SMS messages will work without the Data Plan

PIN messaging is included as a data charge within your Blackberry Data Plan.
It is not billed like SMS messages.
