Default Got my Pearl tonight!

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, coming from a Treo 680 I see this is going to take a little time getting use to. One thing right off the bat is that I apired my Plantronics Discovery 655 and made a test call to my wife. She could hear me but I could not hear anything, not even the phone ringing. Any ideas on this? Also, I've been reading about a OS upgrade. Is it a worthwhile upgrade? I mean for a BB noob at this point? I am currently going through the stickys to get myself more aquainted with this device. Thanks.

Probably more because plantronics is garbage than a problem with your Pearl. (IMO)

Which Pearl did you get? Red? White? Black? If you bought it new from the store tonight, I don't think you'll need to get the OS upgrade. Mine came loaded with the most current already.

If you have a Red Pearl with Cingular, beware that the OS on the phone MIGHT wipe out your browsers after your first sync with Desktop Manager. Its easy to fix, just come back here and search for the thread or post the help question.

Other than that, you probably could just browse the boards for a few days, get ideas on apps to load (Color Pearl, Soft Reset, and the Google Mobile Apps are my recommends).

Oh yeah, that and get used to SureType. Don't worry, its easier than you think, and in a couple of days you'll be hooked on it.

I got the black Pearl from Cingular. I have always had good luck with the Plantronics 600 series BT's. Not sure what the problem is with this combo.

Whoa there... don't throw out the whole company because of a poor experience you may have had. They do make a lot of quality (if not pricey) headsets. I expect that the problems being had with it can be worked out. In our economy, lots of stuff leaves the doors with little more QA testing than compiling it and booting it. "It boots? Ship it!" Plantronics and RIM usually do a pretty good job.

I'm sure they do, but I haven't found them the few times I have tried them. Granted, I haven't used them since the last phone I had with a "wired" headset, (2004? maybe?) but I never had a "good" experience with them. It was enough that I stopped buying phone accessories in general from Best Buy/Circuit City/Target, etc.
I got tired of replacing them every 6-12 months, so I finally spent a little more on a good BTheadset when I got my first BT phone 2 1/2 years ago. Still using it on my Pearl.

I would agree with some of the earlier stuff but the headsets they are putting out now specifically the 655 is a little pricey but has worked very well for me with my Razr and Treo. Just need to get it to work with my Pearl.

Less than 24 hours with this Black Pearl and I gotta say I really like this phone. One question about email and txt messages though....they all show up in my mail box, both emails and SMS. Is this normal? Also when I send a message or reply to a message or email I get a copy in my box. There seems to be only one "box". I use Mailstreet for BES so everything is synced wirelessly. If I move a message to a folder within Outlook shouldn't it reflect on the BB? Do I need to make the same folders on the BB itself? Hope I'm making sense here.

The separate message and SMS folder can be had by using the Zen Theme. Look over in this Ringtones and Themes forum on this board for info on it.

I know with BIS, when you set up an account, the BIS server sends a service book to your device, which contains all the messages from that account. It might look like a mail icon with a globe on it, or something similar. You can manage accounts individualy that way...but the Messages application will always contain all messages, whether from email, text/MMS, or whatever. You can also have missed phone calls added to that list. I don't really use the account box, I just use the Messages application as my "clearinghouse" for all messages.
