Music is generally phone-specific, not carrier specific unless the carrier has that feature locked out which is generally not the case with BBs.

Use the media manager in desktop manager. It's pretty straight forward from there

Or download any ringtones you want from various websites directly to your BB while using the BB browser:

Alternatively, if you have a microSD card and mass storage mode on, you can just drag and drop the music onto the microSD card in Windows.

Connect your BB to the PC.
Open Media manager; The two windows will show your BB will be on one side, the PC on the other

If you have songs/music/whatever on your computer, navigate to them using the window open in Media Manager which show your computer. Find that song, use the Media Manager to move that file to the "other" window for the BB.

You'll be juking in no time.

You won't have room on the 8100 memory for songs, without the SD memory card... I assumed you did. Songs can be big files, they need to go on the card, not in the device memory.

I love it when people leak pieces of the whole story one at a time...

Hehehehe! Don"t you just loved it?

It's best to buy a memory card if youre thinking about downloading songs to your phone.

1.Go to eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices and they have good deals for micro memory cards if you can wait for a few days.

2.Once you have it in your phone, plugged in your phone to your PC using your USB cord, open your "E" drive from my computer, click blackberry folder, open music folder.

3.Pick a song from your computer and drag it to the music folder. Wait a few secs, unplug your phone,

4.Go to media, select music and your song should be there.

Next time, do a SEARCH first and you'll find some answers before asking the bb guru's...

You need to do a search of the forum, there are lots of threads on how to
get music on to your Pearl.

While all the steps are easy, there are many, many steps to complete.

But in answer to your original question, in the old days one could not take
advantage of many phone features because one had to go through the
carrier's site to do any uploads or downloads.

That has changed with phones that now include removable chips [on the
Pearl, a micro SD card].

Your Pearl can play music, videos, take pictures or play custom ringtones all
without going through the carrier or being charged extra for using such
features.

But using any of those features requires lots of steps.

First thing, get a micro SD card [note I said "micro" NOT "mini"].

From there it's as simple as looking up the steps on how to set up the card,
how to convert files to play on the Pearl, how to transfer files to and from the
Pearl, etc.
