Question Invalid SIM message in Canada

Please Login to Remove!

Bought a Blackberry Pearl 8100 in the US thinking since my current phone required a SIM card all I would have to do is switch that one into the Blackberry Pearl. Not so. Got an, "Invalid SIM", card message. My service in Canada is through Fido and I haven't had any problems. Anyone have any answers. Also a friend of mine who is from the US put his SIM card in the Blackberry and it worked fine. Is there a difference in how the phone reads the cards depending on whether the phone was was originally purchased in Canada or the US? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like your US friend happened to have a sim card from the original carrier of the blackberry and you just have a normal unlocked blackberry. You will probably want to get it unlocked - what is the branding on the phone/what does your friend have for a US carrier?

Default Invalid SIM message

The phone is a Blackberry Pearl 8100, and the friend does have a Tmobile SIM card. Any idea how to get my SIM card to work in the phone since my phone it was originally pulled from was bought and the service provided through Fido?

You need to have the phone unlocked. There are many vendors that will unlock phones for a reasonable price.
