My new T-Mobile pearl resets automatically and then asks for the pin to be re-installed. I have wiped all the software twice now and the phone continues to behave in this manner. I did the battery removal while usb attached to wipe and re-install, it still restarts while in my pocket.

You need to take it to a store and have the techs look at it or send it back. That's clearly not normal behavior.
