Talking How much ABUSE have you put your Pearl through ?

Please Login to Remove!

Now if your the faint of heart you may want to turn back now I gotta horror story bout my pearl but its got Happy Ending heh no pun intended. I've had my berry for bout a year. And ill tell you right now I'm hell on cell phones you can almost hear em squeal when I walk into T-mo. I'm a steal workEr and I'm on my phone most of the day cause I do work that takes forever to take one cut on something and this place is dirty I gotta clean the teak ball bout 2 times a week if I'm lucky. A cell phone is meant to be used if your afraid to use it you shouldn't have one. Kinds like a muscle car or offroad truck. They were built to be used and abused not kept in a fricken garage and hidden. My hats off to all the classic car owners that drive there cars. Or what ever other thing fits the catagory. Ok now on to the story.

I had my bb on my lap sitting on a stand 17ft in the air. Here's where the faint of heart people should stop reading. It flew off my lap hit the job that was spinning at 20 rpm that's fast for how big the job was. And flew another 40 to 50 ft till it hit the ground the battery cover was the first to go as it hit the job. And as it hit the ground the mute button came part way out. Was just on by the rubber thingy (if you ever took it apart you know what I mean)and slid about another 40 ft till it was stopped by a pool of oil on the floor 3\4" the way in luckily my buddy was walking by and almost caught it mid flight but he ran fast enough that it was only in the oil a good 3 seconds. After a good dismantling and cleaning bout an hour. I am now typing this from the same said phone. Just a few scratches and its a bit shinnyer now. But it still works without a hitch. I should see if BB will let me be the official phone tester for em heh. The only other phone I've ever had that was this tough was my N-Gage that took a few good falls too. What stories do you guys have or girls???

djxedxd sounds like we are in the same line of work.. I'm glad to hear the BB took a little abuse (well heaps after it flew of a job possibly in a big lathe)

My BB is about 1 month old and haven't gotten around to get a case, probably never happen now.
Its got a few scratches from the environment I'm in as well. Just waiting for the day a piece of hot swarf flys out of our machines and melts into one of the keys.
Gives me an excuse to buy another I guess.

Ya Beaker i run a laythe but when this happened i was on the 16ft CNC Vertical that we have at my work and the job was 17' 9" TALL so it had to be clamped down .When it dropped of my lap the clamp is what it got railed by and flew.
For anyone that dont know a vertical is a big huge round table that spins with a cylinder on it and is cut to what ever a costomer wants. And i must say i dont know how but it only got hit on the back of the battery door and one scratch to the screen.
Maybe the Pearl was doin the back pedal in the air to save it's self lol.

This is a good story of someone lucking out. I have read posts on here where people have dropped their Pearls on the floor, about 3 feet, and the Pearls stopped working.

IMHO the Pearl is pretty fragile, but this is an amazing story. I can only hope my Pearl survives after such an ordeal. Oh wait, I hope my Pearl never goes through such an ordeal.

i've had mine for 3 weeks and already dropped it twice lol once i was getting out of the car and it somehow fell outta my shirt pocket bounced of my car seat and flew out the door but luckily it only got 1 lil scratch on the bottom even tho it landed on the screen. The other time i wasn't so lucky got a lil nic on the screen, but none of it is horrible dmg but ya i figure it's gonna get nic'ed eventually might as well do it now so i don't have to feel bad later lol

it still works great, seems pretty durable to me lol

Little sucker is prety resilient - I must drop my Pearl on the floor, stairs, or elevators, etc... at least one or twice a week - thing just jumps out of my hands or slips out of my suit jacket as I try to mute the email buzzer. Only visible damage so far - one of the little black square opposite the mute button has popped and is now missing. Kudos to RIM - they've made the Pearl travel worthy !!!

Thumbs up

Ya I'd say its a pretty durable phone. I think the people that had there's break from a small fall are pretty unlucky. If this phone can survive me and keep on ticking RIM did something right!

Wow djxedxd thats a big machine. Ours are way smaller. Big jobs like that are scary, one wrong cut and ya down the road.

How unbelievable is it.
Your in a rush and ya pick up a few items that you need for the work day. You have a few items in your hands, keys, lunch, phone, wallet, and you rush out the door, go out to the car and what do you drop.
That's right the most expensive item! the phone...
Gets ya every time, damn you Murphy. (shaking fist into the sky)
Just tonight I purchased a lanyard so now I can keep it around my wrist.

Yeah, I have only had the 3 foot drops off of my lap and such, once outside.

It has a ding on top right, and the back.

But I am getting the Seidio Extended Battery soon, so I will have a new door, and a rubber case. :]]]

Heh. That's weird I searched for abuse before I made this post and that link never came up. I hate double posts. Or threads so that's why I searched it. Hmm eh the cells browsers weird like that sometimes.

I had my phone in my lap while driving. My car doesnt have any cupholders. When I got out, it fell and hit the ground. It scratched the metal piece, on top of the phone. That was the only section that wasnt cover by my shield.

Now I have a small black spot where the metal had scraped off.
