Default Dumb question about dumb problem - 05-22-2007, 12:07 PM

I am trying to figure out the theoretically simple problem of accessing the address book when I need to find a name that starts with the second character on any of the Pearl keys. For example, I want to call up a list of names that begin with F, but regardless of how I attack the D-F key, I can never call up the F character.

Tell me I'm missing something obvious!

When you press the D-F key, it will bring up all contacts that contain D -or- F.
Just keep typing and it will continue to match strings until you narrow down to what you're looking for.

The only thing dumb is your dumb thread title.

But seriously, I had the same issue at one time, but using your example, what I do is press the <D-F> key then scroll down until I see the F entries start.

In other words, when pressing D-F [or use <E-R> as a better example] the "D" entries will show first, scroll down with the trackball and the "F" entries will show next [even though the "E" entries would logically be next on the list].

Try pressing <E-R> and you will see what I mean. Scrolling down it goes from the "E" entries, down to the "R" entries next.

I think this has something to do with using SureType instead of Multi-Tap, Multi-Tap being the way to double pressing keys to get to the next letter.

Thanks, I figured it would be something simple like that. If I had just typed the second character of the name I was looking for, it would have been obvious!
