I've been on Opera's site to read about all the features, so I decided to attempt an install of Mini without any success (and thus abandoned trying to install it).

The default browser on my Berry works. Although I haven't been to a lot of sites with a lot of fancy shmancy stuff, I've been able to do what I need to with it.

What can Mini do that the BB browser can't? Am I missing out on something / a lot?

You're not missing out on anything IMO.

Opera Mini is popular because many people have been able to utilize it without a BB Data Plan.

Wow, surprised by the responses. I use it almost exclusively. It renders most pages waaay better then the BB browser. There are many pages that do not work, but will also not work on the BB browser, like any ajax pages. Iinitially it feels clumsy, but once you get used to it you won't leave it.

Pros:
-The first page has a url bar, a web search box (even if its Yahoo), a wikipedia/imdb/dictionary (also customizevbale with other engines) and your favorites
-when you scroll to left or right, you get full page scrolls, as opposed to the BB browser which does it line by line, link by link
-renders pages better (MySpace is a great example)

Cons
-favorites and settings can be backed up (easily)
-can't be made into default browser (so if you have a link in an email, you have to copy and paste into opera)
-can't figure out how to copy or send the link of whatever page your on to send to a friend

Pros outweigh cons

i defintly agree with zimbu1234! i love opera! swear by it actually- i think it makes the pages look alot better. i think its real smooth and just convient- im surprised to hear that someone wouldnt like it actually. everyone should at least give it a shot-

I have OM and use it rarely on for my banking site. I think it does render many site pages more correctly as intended, but I also tend to use more wap sites anyway, which sorta negates that.

Cuts down data usage dramatically especially on larger pages with more images.

Personally, I prefer Opera. Page rendering. Also, you can skip to next creen by scrolling left or right( right=PGDN ) or up and down for single lines. I use both browsers and Opera would have to be 70-30.

Does it work very well ? Also , don't you guys use the google mobile thing to convert the pages ? Haven't got to WAP yet . I imagine it means it's "optimized" for the handheld .

You'll need the APN settings for your carrier to make it work. Put them in under Options >Advanced Options >TCP.



Also, I use Opera as there are quite a few sites that I can't access with the OEM browser. And some that, even if I can view them, I can't log into them. Opera is a nice companion to the OEM browser.

1- yes and no. You can't have both browsers up on the screen, but one can be running in the background while the other is active on the screen.
2- read the posts above, some say it works well, others not.
3- Yes, i use the google mobile some, not always.
4- Wap sites are optimized for mobile devices.

Also, if you are on a BES, your BES may restrict sites that you access through the BB Browser. You can still get to them through Opera Mini.

Yep, and just as warning, if you are on a corporate-issued BB, they will still have access to the sites your BB visited.

Yesterday , I turned on the style sheets and the html tables (as per mobile espn's request) and it sure makes things different . wow . Emulation Mode ?

Thanks man , I just wanted to be able to open a "2nd" window , look something else up , while the browser is open . I'm not on a BES .

If your opera mini connects via your hosted BES instead of your carrier's internet does that make any difference when it comes to data usage? (i cant tell what connection it's using)
