Hi,

First, apologies if this has been dealt with but I have vigorously searched for an answer!

Is it possible to have a text message (sms) only icon in all themes? I ask this because I have found it possible in one theme but not the custom one I currently use. I can select to view only my sms inbox but this setting isn't permanent, so when I click back on my messages icon I see my sms and my emails together.

Also, is it possible to turn the receiving of emails off during certain hours, as you can the phone itself (auto on/off). I thought this might be a good solution for when I'm in the office - I don't need to receive the same email twice!

Thanks for any help,

James

not sure about the SMS but for the emails, even if you turn it off, when you turn it back on all those waiting to be received that whole time will flood in so you will still get duplicates - but you could just turn off data (but not by times, it's manual). Someone else might be along with a better option...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8100: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

You can enable separate SMS/MMS inbox in the newest OS's (do a search for TIM Italy OS or Rogers OS that just came out). Otherwise it's only on certain themes. With regard to email--are you on a BES or BIS? Give more info about your email for help with that. You can turn of data manually but you will still get the emails when you turn data back on. Another option would be to turn it of on the BIS site. Yet another thing you can do with POP email is set your work client to delete the emails when it picks them up, so when you are at work and you get the email on your computer it will not be picked up by your BB too. The exception would be when the BB polls the server before your email client, but this is rare if you set the client to check for new messages every minute or so.

Thanks for the response akg,

Is it safe to load the TIM Italy OS or Rogers OS considering I use Vodafone in the UK? not sure what influence this might have but just want to check before I break my new phone!

I think I'm on BIS, which means my phone and computer email isn't sync live (I mean if I delete from one it has no effect on the other). I'm not using a POP server, I'm using a IMAP server. So does this mean the third option you mentioned wouldn't work?

I guess I can use turn it off in the filters section every morning and back on before I leave - it just seems like there should be a better option...

Yes, you can load any OS. It's completely safe and automatically does the backups and everything. The Rogers OS seems to be more stable and I haven't had any problems.

I'm not too familiar with IMAP, but do you have a workstation client (Outlook, Thunderbird) or do you use webmail? Is it something like Hotmail or is it your company's mail server? I suppose if you are using a client that you can set to delete the message upon retrieval it will have the same effect, because when the BB polls the server the message will not be there because you have already picked it up. I'm not sure if IMAP works this way but I know POP does.

Your best option may end up being to turn it off in BIS if the other option won't work. I have read other people saying they do this.
