I know how to do the wipe; problem is, all the applications I downloaded are still here after the wipe.
I'm wondering how to do a complete reset of the phone, basically restore it to brand new status. I ask because my Pearl is dropping calls like mad; I get a few minutes into a call and it goes fuzzy, eventually hanging up with a "failed call" message.
I bought it off of craigslist, so I'm afraid that may have been why he sold it. Then again, it might be one of my apps causing the problem. I did a search and found some vague information about a file I need to download, but how does this work exactly?
during the wipe you have one screen that gives you the "advanced" button - if you click it, it will give you an option to completely wipe and not restore other applications. You can also tell desktop manager to uninstall the extra applications by unchecking them.
Where exactly does this "advanced" message pop up? I just did another wipe and never saw it. It asked me to enter "blackberry", I did, and it proceded to wipe. Never had any options I could click on.
The "wipe handheld" option from the handheld itself will not wipe the OS. It only wipes the data within the OS.
Use JL_Cmder (in my sig) to wipe the handheld from the PC via the USB port. You should end up with a circle that says "error 507" Then you can use Desktop Manager/Application Loader to load the OS to the device.
Thank you, I'm going to try this as soon as I get off work.
One last question: I'm assuming "installing" the OS on my computer will load it into the Desktop Manager, but how do I get it into the Pearl? Plug it in, and it does the rest?
After you wipe with JL_Cmder and 507 is displayed on the device:
1. Install Desktop Manager (if it isn't already)
2. Install OS package (of your choice from any carrier)
3. Delete vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Connect BB and Open Desktop Manager.
5. In "Connections" select USB.
6. Open Application Loader and install the OS.
