Thumbs up Changing The Color Of Your Pearl Case

Please Login to Remove!

Hey people, want to change the color of your Pearl from black to a nice metallic blue, green, red, gold, yellow or white?

NOTE: the above colors are not vibrant in the pic. The tape actually has a bright metallic look, similar to how the Pearl red phone surface looks.

What I did was order some very good reflective tape [15 x 10 sheets] from the below company.

I then simply used an Xacto knife to cut the pieces to conform to the Pearl's black case.

The reflective tape is very sticky and IMHO will not come off very easy [it comes off in little pieces. Would take forever to remove completely].

But if you want a fun project and are tired of black and don't want to buy a new phone strictly for a color change, consider this.

I am leaving now, but will post pics of my phone, the sheets I bought and the cutting process. Seems members like that kind of "how to" similar to my trackball color changing thread.

Here is the site where I got the tape:

LINK Streetglo Reflective Tape for Bicycles, Cars Trucks and Motorcycles. 3m Reflective Tape material conspicuity tape

Sidenote: I bought lots of rolls and sheets for application to my road bikes, helmets, etc. After that is when I thought about doing a Pearl color change.

This tape acts as a protective skin too. It is very durable, as you might suspect since it can be used as pin striping for cars and motorcycles.

SF now you've made me want to try this, most likely fail, then be sad haha... I have a BSE and I'm wondering if it'll stick on the BSE if I apply that kind of tape. Would I be able to peel it off if I wanted to without harming the BSE too?

Very interesting.

I have BSE on mine and I would apply it over my BSE to give it double protection if I were to try this.

I would have 3 layers of protection: BSE > tape > clear plastic case.

Let's see some photos!!

I am late for a date, so here are two quick pics. The camera does not show the color well.

I used a BSE skin as a template to cut out the pieces, so while I can save the pieces for another cutout template [new color] I did use up one BSE skin.

Aw man, that makes my idea look like sheet, although I like the quality of my reflective tape.

Thanks for the link. I at least brought up the concept to BBF, but your link is totally cool.

Even better, is that eBay seller gives one THREE colors for that price, meaning three sets. Man, what a deal.

I just bought a set.

To think I spent an hour cutting my set. Oh well, who would have thought those skins were for sale. Hmm... lets see.... the creator and you. That's two for starters.

Oh well, guess I'll go sit in the corner for an hour, like I had to do in grade school, all the time.

You bought the set, now I want one. I hope he offers another one soon. Looks cool, how did you fit it with the bigger Seidio battery back that you use is what I want to know. Or did you just use the front pieces.

Thanks, I bid on one. I just hope I can trim it to fit at least most of the back with the new battery cover on it.

On my what is now an "old idea" I used my stock cover. But I could have just as well used the extended cover by cutting either the sheet or the tape rolls to size. But looks like that it was a good idea not to go through that effort.

What I will try to do is use these on the medium Seidio battery cover and see if I can cut some slits on the sides so the tape will fit.

If that does not work, than I may take the time to use the StreetGlo roll tape to custom cut the red tape to fit on the extended covers.

By the way, I took my Pearl with the Red mod to a restaurant last night and I got compliments on it. One was a tech savvy person who said that the red phone looked "damn good."

And of course, I can now see my Pearl from the distance. Can find it way easier now, whether on the car seat, desktop or when at my GF's house, on the [BBF mod here, this part has been censored].

I got a set from Ebay today in Carbon Fiber (matches my soon to be purchased CF accessories for my Mini Cooper). The back piece fits my extended battery cover perfectly with no modifications. The thing covers around the sides of the hump just fine. Nice item for the price.
