Default Can't get 4.2.1.148 OS to work

Please Login to Remove!

I originally had the TIM release OS on my Pearl, and absolutely loved the improvements from the current Tmo OS, and when I saw the thread here about the newer 4.2.1.148, I decided to try it. Big mistake. Anytime I try to load this new OS on my Pearl, afterwards, the phone does not have its theme, and just displays a white list of the menu functions, and goes into an endless loop of java exceptions.

I had no choice but to reload the official Tmo OS on it. I hate the Tmo OS. So after clean wiping and reloading the Tmo OS on my phone, I started from scratch and put the 4.2.1.148 back on, thinking maybe something got corrupted the last time. Same result, and had to go back to the Tmo official one once again.

Anyone have any idea why I am unable to load the newest release? It seems to be working for everyone else. Yes, I am deleting the vendor.xml, and I am replacing the blackberry.alx with the modified one I got from this site a while ago.

Thanks for any help.

Try not replacing the bb.alx file on the initial load, and try not using the integrated backup of the install procedure (obviously make a backup of your data before the install). Then if it's stable, load on the backup of data, then 3rd party apps, and finally the themes from a modified bb.alx.

The second time I did it, I tried without doing the integrated backup. Didn't work that way either. I haven't tried not replacing the blackberry.alx, but that wouldn't be a long term solution since I've fallen in love with the Vodafone theme.

In order to troubleshoot where this issue is arising though, you have to minimize the outside factors.
The most basic case of installing the software is as it was meant to be installed, so start there and then gradually introduce more variables. It may turn out that there was something wrong in the BB.alx you used or it was not meant for that particular version.
Worst case scenario you may have to make concessions of what you want/need

What exactly do you hate about the Tmo OS and what do you like better about the new OS?

Aside from the fact that the Tmo OS is slow, I like the fact that with the newer ones, if you want to silence a call without just sending them straight to voice mail you can hit the volume down button. With the Tmo OS, the ringtone starts up again when you do this. Also, it shows who is in your MyFaves in the messaging display with the newer OS. Those are the most visible things I miss.
