I edit my address book through yahoo. Once you sync with outlook, yahoo or any of the other available choices any changes you make on the phone or on the computer will be transfered to the other when you attach the phone through usb.

There is no way to edit the BlackBerry Address Book directly from the PC.

If you have BES with wireless sync, changes made on the PC change the BlackBerry almost immediately.

Otherwise, it is a manual sync via the USB cable (either using Yahoo Calendar, as mentioned above) or Outlook (which is what a lot of people do).

when you do a backup thru DM all calendar, contact, tasks (etc.) data is saved into the backup file, correct ?

i'm not so sure i wanna use outlook to synch with the device just yet. question for those that sync with outlook: does it work ? does it have any inconsistencies, such as removing/changing data fields from the bb or outlook ?

i've got office 2003, so if i wanted to sync, i'd be doing it with outlook 2003 on a Vista platform.

Yes, all data on the BlackBerry is backed up tot he backup (IPD) file.

The Intellisync built into Desktop Manager is very stable. This has been around since the early days of the BlackBerry and was designed to work with Outlook.

I don't have metrics, but I would guess that the vast majority of BlackBerry users - and most of the corporate users - sync with Outlook.

Ditto NJ. The BB <-> Oulook process is seamless and the best option, IMO. Sakman, you can map the fields to the BB, if you have some odd fields in Outlook, etc.
