Pearl Slow with SMS -
06-05-2007, 03:25 PM
I have been noticing that my pearl was running slow, the text was lagging, and the ball was lagging as well. I have changed the status in the pictures for allocated space up to 12 and have deleted languages I do not need. Reset, thought I noticed a difference. Then, last night it started doing it again. Turns out when I delete all previous sms texts, the problem goes away. Why is this? I have a 1gig flash in it, but after about 15 texts, it starts doing this. Any ideas?

Still sounds like memory to me unless they are MMS vs. SMS messages.
Menu>Option>Status - what is your free memory? If you hit the red end key when exiting an application vs. using the Menu Close option you will leave the application running in the background.

I have the same problem.
After about 10-15 SMS messages, the text starts lagging badly.
I have 10379116 Bytes left in my memory.

10 MB is low to the point where people have reported losing call logs. If you press ALT +Return what applications do you show running? After a hard reset (Battery pull) how much memory do you show? What applications have you installed?
Another quick tip is ALT+LGLG and delete the logs periodically.

Oh it is? I didn't realize that 10 MB was low.
I only have the 5 main things running when I do Alt+Return.
I have a lot of applications on my BB. I need to get rid of some.
Right now I have: All four google applications, mediaplayer, opera, beyond411, askmenow, wattpad, jivetalk, freerange, and tellme. =/
I'm thinking about getting rid of some of the google apps and also mediaplayer since I don't use them often. I might end up getting rid of either beyond411 or tellme also.
Think that would help?
After a reset + deleting the logs I have 12029624 Bytes.

I would get right on deleting un-used or similar applications. Did you delete the video and extra languages as suggested in the link? Mine sits at 22 MB.

Well memory was my only guess. I receive about 80 emails per day and probably 40 SMS. I have 200+ SMS stored on the phone and no lag. I will re-state that anything less than 12MB free memory on the device will result in instability or data loss.

I don't know what he did to get that much memory! It only has 26 MB free out of the box. I guess if you delete the sample video and all of the languages with no other apps you might have that much.

Alright, I just deleted all of the additional input languages and now I have almost 16MB.
Guess I'll get rid of some of those google apps to try and free up some additional memory.

Just found another way to gain some memory.
I have a microSD card to store pictures/music on so I went into the Media folder and went to Options and set the 'Memory reserved for Images' from 10MB to 0MB since I don't store any type of media on to the Device's memory anyways.
Am I correct that this setting won't affect anything that has to do with storing images onto my microSD card?
I had 16MB free before setting it to 0MB and now I have almost 24MB free.

I don't think it will be an issue.... So how is the performance surrounding SMS messages???

Probably ridiculous ..... but it seemed that when I decreased the allotted pic memory I started getting some noise in photos in the browser . (?)
I've seen alot of threads about clearing memory but have never heard the follow-up .... how it correlates to performance . So I've never done the video or the languages .
As little SMS I have , while I was typing an SMS came in ..... and now I have a letter icon stuck on my main screen (with a #1, no asterisk) . I know it's just a battery pull away , but seems buggy .

Well after a battery pull if it persists I would just reallocate the memory. I am not sure what you mean by "Noise" in your browser picutures.
I was trying to quantify whether the Volume of SMS messages and low memory contributed to slowness. When the member reported that their memory was at 12mg it was obvious that they needed to correct that issue before proceeding.
Sorry if I lead anyone down the wrong path.

Operator Problems :) -
06-07-2007, 10:28 AM
Not me . Anyway I got a new phone , so I havent done it again (that was 2 weeks ago). The photos look the same as they did before , better .
I found the sms . I knew I would . Hey , I'm not the texting king , not yet . It was just showing me I had an unopened message , which seemed logical , I just couldnt find it . So it seemed like it didnt reset .
Otherwise this thing was worked flawlessly . Thanks for the polite reply .
And btw , I checked yesterday , had 6 megs avail. Noise means distortion . Have a great day !

sms slow -
06-13-2007, 10:04 PM
I had the same problem with SMS being laggy, and for me two things have seemed to work...
1) Delete the history of sms messages, or reduce it to only remember about 5 or so. To test this out, start replying to an SMS, then open your menu and select remove history.
2) I upgraded to the most recent BB OS (sticky in this forum) and that cleared up all my SMS lag issues.
