Thumbs down Older 8100 vs New 8100 screen...

Please Login to Remove!
I must say that I am unhappy with the newer screens on the blackberry's :(

They look too "washed out" compared to the older/original ones. The older one's have deeper tones and richer colors.

Anyone else noticing this?

Nah - too hard to tell from the pictures - too much glare - trust me, its noticeable.

It might have something to do with the auto dimming and the early version of the OS and the newer version of the OS for the 8100.

The screen didn't change. I have noticed the difference when I got rid of my old 8100 and get the new white 8100.

After a while you get used to it and it won't matter anymore.

Any way you can tell whether you have the "old" screen or the "new" one by maybe where it was manufactured or the serial number?

I'm curious to know which one I have.

I have the new one from what you say bout the dimming. I have not noticed anything cause I have not seen the older version, however, i am in love with my bb.

If you shine a light into the sensor (located where the LED is), does your screen get brighter? If it does, and you want it to always remain bright, you'll need to upgrade the OS to regain control of the autodim feature and then disable it via Screen/Keyboard options.

I think the latest OS, they took out the option to disable the autodim.

Eversince I put the latest Rogers software on my phone, I never had to deal with the auto dim. It's bright 24 seven.

well looky here.....older unit is "made in Canada"
newer one is ................ "made in Mexico" !!

BTW, its got zero to do with the auto dimming feature guys - it is clearly more WASHED out than older models. I do understand how the feature works - the overall tone of the display is washed out.

...must be those corona drinking amigos

not quite sure of that - cant see myself getting used to this = I prefer my older unit.

Mine says "Made in Hungary" and the display is pretty crisp. Of course I don't have a Canadian Pearl, so I can't do a side-by-side comparison.

mine says: Made in Mexico, i bought it like 8 months ago and the screen looks pretty nice... i guess your assumption is not correct at all
