Default Best way to use Gmail?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm impatiently waiting for the 25th when I am eligible for a phone upgrade. Until then I am trying to figure everything out so I have a question for the experts. What is the best way to use Gmail on the Pearl? I've used a bberry before and just forwarded my Gmail to a @cingular.com email address. I know Google has a Gmail app now, so which one is better? Will I get notifications with the Gmail app? What am I gaining/losing by using one or the other?

I have my gmail account come directly to my phone. Just under email setup on the BB. The only problem I have is that when I send an email from my BB it sneds me a message saying "all text typed in message" "has been sent via T-Mobile BB". Really a pain in the a$$ and I haven't been able to get this fixed yet.

For some people they don't have the issue and some do.

For the some that do they just add a filter and it's gone.

For me I have added a filter and I still have the problem.

Sorry for the newb question but... So on the Pearl there is a setup that will allow me to configure my Gmail w/o any additional apps? Does this give me push email? Does this remove the email from Google's server (I'm assuming it's some sort of POP3 setup)?

Well on the pearl you will have an icon for email set-up and thats the one I used. Once it was in there you can fiddle with your options.

I have mine set-up that when I earse for handheld it earses for my gmail account. You can set-up to do Gamil account - Handheld and Gmail Account - Handheld.

You will have to change some options to "NO" so you don't get the messages back like me and then you should be fine.

I'm getting closer to fixing my problem I hope. Other then that I like having them come pretty much immediately after it hits the gmail account.

I just set it up for the BB e-mail program. The gmail client doesn't automatically update so you have to go into it and go into the options and refresh it. Much more handy to just use the BB e-mail.

So your saying that you have to refresh your Gmail account before you get any emails?

All you want to do is get rid of the "has been sent via T-Mobile BB"?

I have both the application that I downloaded from google, and the "Push Email" straight from the Pearl. I use both, mainly because from the actual Gmail application, when you start typing an address, the corresponding contacts come up (just like when using gmail from your computer). Very useful when you forget the contact's email address. However, if I do recall their address or if it's in the address book, I just write it from the BB message center.

Also, a side note, another google product that I use almost everyday is google map. I downloaded it to my blackberry when I first got it, and it's the best app I've got on there. Find restaurants, venues, and best of all, real time traffic!

When I first breezed over that post, that's what I thought he was saying, too, but I think he is saying that he actually gets a message that says "all text typed in message" "has been sent via T-Mobile BB".

If, in fact, it is the signature issue, it's easily taken care of online at tmobile.com. Log on, click on the picture of the 8100, email accounts, edit, then you will see "sent via Blackberry on T-Mobile" in the signature line. Erase or change.

Yeah it's kind of a pain if you get urgent e-mails that you would like to know about right away. I didn't reallize about the part where when you start typing in the address, it will start to fill it in for you. Good reason to have both on there I guess then.

Use both. It's not a big deal. I prefer to just use it direct to BB via your BIS service, but use the app for addresses that I only have in gmail and to search for an email that came before I had my bb configured to have gmail sent to it.

Another downside of the app besides that you have to refresh it is that if you are in an area with no service you can check previous messages. In the BB you can look at any that were sent to that since they are stored locally.

I'm with Rogers. As to the post by BBGregPearl, I think that what he means is that when you send a message from your Pearl or on your computer using Gmail as your default email addy, you will get another email sent back to you from yourself of the EXACT same email but with your signature at the bottom like you sent them to yourself. I get them with every single email I send. It's not a bcc: issue or anything...I have had discussions with Rogers Level 2 Tech Support, and Blackberry Techies but no one knows why it does this. Can someone help and get my phone to stop doing this?

I second that. I recently started having my gmail set up directly on my BB instead of having it forward to my blackberry address and every time i send a message it get a copy of it on my BB. This is really annoying so it would be great if someone had a fix for it.

Log into your BIS page with your carrier and set up a filter on that email account so that if the "From" field is your gmail account, do not forward. Works great for me.

No you don't. I've never had to hit refresh on the Gmail client. It is sometimes delayed by a minute from the regular one, but it auto-refreshes.

just go to gmail.com with your browser, and you should be able to click get gmail faster. This way a new icon will come up on your BB. Then i just shortcut gmail with a convience key. I just use the side convience key so i can check my gmail fastest

I use the gmail app. The only downside being that it doesn't notify me of new emails (it does check in the background).
