Default Anyone have a non-Seidio extended battery?

Please Login to Remove!

I found a few extended batteries (1800 and 1900 mAh) for the PEarl online, with battery door (no speaker cutout tho). They run about $20. Anyone have one of these? Impressions? Thx.

Default OK, *I* have one now! $^)

I went ahead and picked up a 1900 mAh battery for the PEarl from eBay. $21 shipped. It comes with a replacement back battery door, which looks similar to the one for the Seidio 2450 mAh battery. (It may be a bit thinner--not sure.)

The company who makes it is Cameron Sino. They have a website (cameronsino.net, but you apparently need an account to log in for product details) and seem legit.

The battery seems solid and well-made. Of course, I will have to charge it up and test it for longevity! The battery door is T-mobile black. It doesn't have a rear speaker cutout, a silver area around the camera lens, nor a "self-portrait" mirror. (Which I never use anyway.) Just a solid black cover with holes for the lens and flash--no logos or anything extra.

Cover seems sturdy and fits well. In fact, I have a broken battery latch button--one of the hooks broke off and the spring got lost. The stock cover was held on with black electrical tape along the seam. However, as a nice surprise, I was able to securely slide the new cover on over the battery latch (I still have a small bit of foam rubber under the latch) and it stays on very securely. The latch and back cover are on solid and tight now! Yay! (With the software reset utility installed, I will almost never have to remove the cover anyway.)

So, my initial impressions are positive. The extended battery adds a bit of heft to the Pearl, but not too much IMO, and it provides a nice finger rest when gripping the phone. My impressions are very similar to those posted by San Fran in his review of the Seidio 2450 mAH battery.

Just some more info in case anyone is interested... $^)

Can you take and post some pics of the battery and cover.

Does the battery say where the lith cells came from? Generally, Japanese cells are of better quality than the cheap stuff coming out of mainland China.

Refer to my review of the Seidio 2450 battery and do some similar tests. Fully charge the battery then see how long you can go without a charge. Also let us know what uses you put it through.

I am very curious because I have always maintained the position that there are good extended batteries, in contrast to those that are cheaply made and perform poorly.

For sure, that's a great price you paid. But how the battery performs will be the deciding factor on whether or not it was a good deal. I sure like that price compared to what Seidio charges.

Oh, I see on the eBay page they say "Made with the finest Japanese cells."

Boy... $14 for a battery and cover is sure low.

The Company has been around for a time. Here is a 2005 review of one of their batteries.

That's the battery. Don't have a pic yet, but it looks a lot like the Seidio 2450 mAh cover, except it has no grill or mirror-just plain black. Thickness is about the same too. I charged it fully as of early afternoon today, and will report on usage and charge remaining over the next everal days.

Actually does look legit... and the review of it actually does show that it is extended... why is it that we haven't heard of it until now? =O

Seidiobsession around here, maybe?

BTW, after a bit more than 24 hours, the battery meter hasn't budged. I'd estimate reading/checking e-mail about 7-8 times, about 45 minutes of poker, and about 20 minutes using the phone....

I don't think it is Seidio obsession. In fact, posts before have discussed other batteries, that is, other than Seidio. Others have reported going on to eBay and not finding extended batteries for the Pearl. I kinda wonder when this one went on sale. You may have tapped into it fairly close to its debut.

Bonus Tip: For a more accurate indicator of power remaining, rather than referring to the battery meter graphic, go into <options> <status> and there the battery power remaining will be indicated, as a percentage. Inaccurate in that it can, for example, decline from 90% to 60% instantly, but it does give a good read on power remaining.

I was kinda joking about the "seidiobsession" thing, as I had only seen reviews of their batteries, plus several other products here. (I don't own any, but Seidio seems to make good stuff!)

Coming up on 2 days, battery is down a notch and status indicates 70%. Some web browsing and poker and a few e-mails since yesterday, plus checking voicemail. My best guess is that I'd be under 50% for sure after 2 days with the original battery.

BTW, someone posted here that you can fit an 8700 battery (CS-2) in a Pearl. It has 1100 mAh, a slight boost in capacity, and can be bought on eBay (OEM) for under $10 shipped.

Regarding the extended battery from Crutchfield above, I'd be surprised if a 1500+ mAh battery would fit in the original form factor. Would like to see tests on this battery!

Well, I was only kinda commenting back, Dr.

Keep us posted on your results. So far so good on the percentage remaining.

That's what it looks like to me but I have no idea. I went to a T-Mobile store to see if they had one and of course they don't. I don't want to order something and have to return it.
