Hello all

I am currently using a treo 650 and it is pretty much on its last legs. After seeing the pearl I have become quite interested in it. I'm one of those people that does a lot of research before making a purchase and I have encountered A few reoccurring issues in the reviews and I am wondering if you folks can tell me if they are still problems or if they are as big of problems as some people make them out to be.

1. Delay on answer - Quite a few of the user reviews on cnet have said they get a 5-10 second lag when they first try to answer a call. Has this issue been addressed at all?

2. Cheap Plastic - A read in a few reviews that people say the plastic on the back of the device feels a bit cheep and the batter cover fits loosely. Is this really a problem?

3. Do I understand correctly that you can play MP3's and video's with the phone however even if using a 2 speaker headset you only get sound from one speaker? I don't really want a phone to be a Multi Media Powerhouse but because of the size it would make a great jogging companion and keep me from having to buy a iPod.

4. Coming from a full keyboard on a treo 750, How hard is it to learn to use the SureType system. This was the main factor that first steered me away from the newer BB's but after seeing some of the other garbage phones out there im considering it again.

Any advice you can give would be much appericated. I'm just trying to make a informed decision.

1. I have not experienced that kind of delay. One second yes. 5-10 second, oh heck no. I have not even read of that kind of delay on this board that has over 115,000 users and over 500,000 posts. You would think someone would complain?

2. I think my wife's battery cover feels loose. Yes. It was easily rectified with an inexpensive skin.

3. You can play MP3s on it. Yes on video, but that is NOT it's strongsuit. I don't know about the speaker issue.

4. Some people love SureType, some people hate it. You will be your own judge. I have used both ST and QWERTY and can switch back and forth.

My reco--look at the Curve if you truly want heavier multimedia support. The 8100 was BB's first run with multimedia. The curve also allows a larger memory card.

1. I have noticed a little bit of a delay but nothing to that extent.

2. Mine seems to be pretty solid. Although the fine finish on it looks like it could scratche easily.

3. Not aware of that issue but sounds like it would be really annoying.

4. I came from a phone with a qwerty keyboard and I love the sure type. Thought it would be really hard to get used to but it's not. I would have to say that I am probably typing just as well with this phone in less than a week as I was on my old phone with the qwerty keyboard.

Well, Like I said, I'm not really looking for super multi media functions but a working MP3 player (That plays in stereo) would be a major plus. One other question I forgot to mention is about the trackball. It is another function that really draws me to the device but I read in a few reviews that people are having lag issues with them IE If they try to scroll it quickly it freezes or lags. Anyone else hear of this?

One other problem that I have seen people talking about is how the track ball works with incoming calls. Bumping the trackball when a call is coming in will ignore the call, or even worse will sometimes call 911. Anyone know if this has been fixed?

Dave
I just found a thread about that in another BB forum and it appears the problem was fixed with a firmware update some time ago. I have a question about the track ball. Does it act like a mouse as in it moves a cursor around the screen, or is it simply for navigation as in scrolling pages up down right and left?

It acts as a mouse on the screen. You can highlight icons on the screen and then push down to select.

Just want to make sure I understand this. So it acts like a mouse would on a computer IE Displays a cursor and you move the cursor around to select things?
