Default How sturdy is the trackball and its little housing? - 06-18-2007, 12:14 PM

I just got my Pearl a few days ago. So far I love it, but the trackball, more specifically the little housing it sits in, seems to be a little wobbly, i.e. it moves around when I use the trackball. Is that normal? I use a belt clip leather case and I hope that's not making it looser when I slip it in and out. Any chance the ball can break or fall out?

Is it the housing or the trackball itself? I noticed that the trackball on mine doesn't seem really tight. This drove me nuts for about the first week, but now I'm used to it. Everyone at my workplace has Pearls now, and it seems to be this way on all of them, so I guess it's normal.

One concern I had is the long-term affect of this "looseness". Remember how old mouses got gunked up after a while and you had to take them apart to clean them? I wonder if that will happen. I've only had mine for a couple months and it's been fine, but it would be nice to hear from the long-term users.

the base the ball sits in is loose, it wobbles back and forth when I use the trackball. Every other Pearl I have seen has had a solid base. It's kind of annoying, I guess I'll have to get used to it.
