Default C-S2 battery in the pearl

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there, my 2 pearl batteryes were discharged, so I was desperate, so I strapped on a C-S2 battery from my old 8703e it is a bit tighter of a fit, but works fine, and has longer life, it does make the pearl a but heftier, but any issues voltage wise, or have I found a higher-capicity solution??
Thanks in advance.

Wirelessly posted (8100: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Go onto blackberrys site and find out the specs 4 each, if u can't find it there then look @ both chargers for your phones they have mA ratings and voltage, which might give u a clue. Also, try cnet.com, u might find info there.

Let us know, i might want to do this swap if the charging and consumption characteristics are the same.

Part number, Model number, voltage/amp/hertz output and imput on both the 8700 and 8100 chargers are the exact same.
both batteries say: 3.7v

I personally couldn't find the specs on the batteries on the web, but it appears they are pretty similar to say the least. I just popped mine in cause i didnt beleive it would fit and it fits as if it should be there.

WOOT!

Just got home from being out and checked the battery thru Options>>Status, and 85% remaining...47 emails today some browsing and average phone use. With the pearl battery on a very lite day by 6pm I am at 40% remaining.
It charges fine in my car, and in the wall and thru the lappy.

Looks like we have found a winner. The good news is that I have like 5 of theses suckers kicking around. from previous 7100i's and 8703e's

Yes and yes, It just takes a bit more care to put the back cover back on. It charges fine.

nice....now i have to go snag me one of these batteries. still sold in stores ?

you might want to pay attention to the behavior of your pearl with both batteries, i.e. does the LED blink brighter, screen brighter, functionality faster/slower etc....
this might help determine if the battery you are using might be overpowering the circuitry....or not

The specs for this battery indicate it holds 1100 mAh. ANd you can get them for well under $10 on eBay. Not bad for a bit of a boost in juice. As long as the cover fits. DOes it fit well over this battery? (No bulging, etc.?)

It fits fine, you just need to be careful putting the cover on as it does fit a little tighter than the standard battery. I did intentionally drop it today on the carpeted floor of my office to see if the back would come off and it stayed on fine.

I am seriously considering getting one, i have found one for $5.68 including shipping on eBay. I think i will hold out until i hear if it changes the look of the pearl, i don't want a bulging back cover!

Has any one else tried this? Did it have any adverse affects on you pearl?

Just to update, I had a pretty heavy data day today, I was out of the office for most of the day. 112 emails answerd about half, 20 inbound calls most about 2 minutes in duration, 18 outbound calls longest being about 15 minutes most 1-5 minutes. Some moderate browsing, 9 back and forth SMS messages, and some moderate brickbreaker>
I took the berry off the charger at 5:30 AM (my kid is an early riser) it is now 9:20 PM and I have 45% battery remaining.

No strangeness to report thus far. No unsightly bulge either!

Do you use the original battery door or a Seidio?

I'm also interested to hear if anyone using a Seidio back cover has tried this, and if the back cover bulges?

I can also help verify this. I've been using the same battery ever since his first post and I def. see a nice increase in how long it lasts and so far no adverse effects that I can see. There is no bulge differeence, although my pearl came with a "square" of foam on the battery door as i'm sure most of yours do also, and i cut it off and now i think everthing sits a bit more flush. Even with the pearl battery, I thought the door had a bulge or didnt feel "snug". A little heavier that I will say, but after carrying an 8700 for the past year, this is still light as a feather.

this is a no-go, at least for me.

when you put the battery cover back on, part of it gets warped and won't click into place properly. the C-S2 is almost 2wice as thick as the C-M2.

if you don't mind running your pearl without the battery cover, or can mod the battery cover to get it to not bulge out then it'd be worth it. personally, i'd rather stick with the M2 batt.

just ordered one of those C-S2 batteries, for less than $10 from Amazon, including shipping... while it hasn't arrived yet... I am curious for those who have switched to this battery do you still see the originally claimed greater battery life or was just a perceived difference? also, any side effects that weren't originally noticed or mentioned? thanks

Like Eulogy101 stated, remove the little square foam from the back of the door and the unsightly bulge is gone.

I just put in the C-S2 from a 7130c and charging up right now. I will see what kind of extra battery performance it will give my bb.

I did some searches on the web for battery capacities and this is what I found out.

C-M2 - OEM Pearl battery - 900mAh
C-S2 - OEM 7130 battery - 1000mAh

This means that there is a 11.1% increase in capacity. Not really much but still an increase.
