Are you using an SD card and has it been formated in the device? If so, is mass storage mode on? Mass storage mode must be off in order for the card to show up in Media Manager.

so how do i turn off mass storage mode so that i can just send a few small clips i have over to the phone to test it out?

You can't change that. That's why you need a micro SD card. You should be able to transfer files less than that limit to the device memory, however, I've not done it. I don't recommend it either as the 8100 has issues when you use up it's memory. You can lose call logs, emails, etc. Just wait for your card. It'll work great.
