The speaker is covered up by the battery cover. Dont ask.
Try this out.

Because the speaker is rubbish and the battery cover is badly designed.
Great, RIM have designed a phone that you can't actually hear....genius.

They should move into producing square wheels and chocolate kettles next.......idiots!

Actually, the speaker is better than a lot of WM5 devices..........

The batt cover thing was a stroke of brilliance though

Get a hearing test. I have perfectly loud ringtones without any mods. I also have a couple superloud ringtones for when I need at times.

If you are coming from a Nextel phone, like me, then yes the ringer is worthlessly quiet. Although, when compared to similar phones the ringer is on par.

Hahaha...its working. But seriously, I can hear my volume. I was only implying that the speakers are poorer then the competition. Thats all.

as much as I love the blackberry, the speaker does suck imo. The alarm only beeps 3 times and I never hear it cause i'm a deep sleeper (but I can hear my alarm clock fine) and the sidekick 3 had a waaay louder speaker and the vibrate was also pretty intense oo!

Well let me just add my comments, I just got a 8830 and by far the worst ringger I have had. Take a ringtone and listen to it in the media player much louder than when in the profile settings. Try it. Someone should fix that.

BBs have long been known for low volume only becuase they were designed as a business tool and who in there office wants to hear peoples phones going off all day.

Our office has a standing rule that when you enter the building either put your phone on vibrate or turn it off. If the Bos catches you not doing this he has ben known to send people home for the day.

Well if blackberry is readying to entire the consumer market, they might wanna change the way they engineer their phones.

Mine has just done the same, although all setting are at high the ring tone was so low I could barely hear it.

I cured it by calling the voicemail and turning the speaker phone on, which was ok. Then disconnected the call and rang my own BB from a landline and every thing back to normal.

Dont know why it worked - but it cured it.

Have you checked both the master volume, and the ring tone volume settings for the active profile?

Surely it's not that difficult to replace the tone with one that lasts longer? I use one that last a minute or so, and repeating that 3 times would wake me a 1000 times over. Then again I'm a light sleeper.

Try my attached tone and see if it helps.
