Default Issues with bluetooth and OS X

Please Login to Remove!

I'm primarily a Mac user, and I've come across an issue that has me confused. I am trying to transfer pictures and files from my Powerbook to my Pearl via Bluetooth. Now if for example I go into the Media section of my Pearl and select the receive via bluetooth option, it sends but gives me an error on the Mac. Nonetheless, it's successful. I can't send multiple files at once though, I have to pick recieve via bluetooth each time. I can't browse the device either -- if I try to do that, it complains that I don't have the services required. So I go under Bluetooth manager, and this is what I get...

When I try to browse:

On the BlackBerry's Bluetooth options, the screen gives me the following info for my Mac:

Trusted: Yes
Encryption: Enabled
Services:
  • Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
  • OBEX Object Push
  • Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
  • OBEX Object Push

Yes, the items do appear in duplicate like that on the list. Any idea what the issue is here or how I can correct it?

What you've hit on is the standard BB behavior. You won't be able to browse the device because, as you've already discovered, that service doesn't exist on the BB. The error you're getting is something screwy in the BB's BT implementation, but I've found that it's solved in packages 4.2.1.x and up (I'm running 4.2.0.89 for stability reasons, so I get that error as well). It doesn't get in the way of uploading files, though. As for uploading multiple files, also not possible. Sorry.

So you're not alone. It's a combination of the way RIM has programmed the device and the fact that every PDA manufacturer on the planet hates OS X (though given how crappy the first-party Windows sync software works for BBs/WM/Palm, I'm not sure I'd want them programming anything for my Mac...).

From a fellow Mac user, I feel your pain.

Blah.

Well I somehow anticipated that was the case. :P I don't know why some people are so opposed to developing applications and support for a far superior operating system. heh. Oh well.

I guess I'll have to buck up and live with it. Thanks for the reply, Brad.
