And by the way, in case there is a next question, on all the boards around the Net, there are no indications that RIM intends to add video recording as a feature on upcoming models.

| San fran, do you have to be so nasty. The poster is a relative newbie - I know that you've specified the right thing to do but the tone could be a little better | | Offline

| Hey I'm a Blackberry rep based out of Waterloo Ont. I can clarify that it is in fact possible to record video on your Curve and pearl, but it needs to be downloaded through third party software, which voids warranty and can sometimes be dangerous. We specifically design the blackberries to legally not be eligible for recording video because it is a legal government issued device. As soon as video format gets put into our device, many employees of the Federal bureau can no longer bring their phone device into work with them. :S sorry for the headache.

Waterloo, Ont. | While that is the case for those who work in the Federal Bureau, it is not for a lot of pearl and curve users. Where can we find this third party program?

| I'm pretty sure that the 3rd party program doesn't even exist, show us some screenshots of it and then we'll believe you, if there were actually one someone here no this forum would have told us about it.

| He said it's possible through 3rd-party software, not that such software existed.

| Have a question, it might be weird but im thinking of everything i can to get this thing to record video....is their any way to take that certain part of software from a phone that does support video capture and using it on the blackberry or editing it so it would work on the blackberry? Just thought i would throw that out there! | | Offline

| I think what he meant is that the hardware of the Pearl and Curve support video recording, but that RIM will never release a firmware capable of doing this, and thus it would have to be done using 3rd party software. That being said, I would also assume that RIM does its best to prevent the development of such software, since it would cause issues with its government customers. They don't really care if it's a native ability or one obtained through aftermarket software - they just don't want a phone that can record video, period.
