Red face Hebrew Fonts on US devices

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

Maybe someone can help me solve this problem. We use blackberries in Israel (8100) that we get from either USA or UK. The UK devices all show hebrew fonts in SMS, Emails and phone book. However the US devices shows ????? instead (in all applications).

I loaded the UK phone OS (with modified ALX file), so the US phone looks and feels just like the UK one (and has exactly the same modules loaded, including the semetic support) but it did not change a thing.

It looks like the font is not burned into the device from the US. I rather not install a third party software, but find a way to move the fonts from the UK device to the US one.

Any idea how to do it?

regards

Raz

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Have you loaded the Hebrew language and input support from Application Loader?

the semitic support has to be loaded. or add the hebrew files to the java folder and you can also type in hebrew ;)

Default hebrew

Does this work on keyboards with 2 chars per key (i.e. 8100 pearl?)
Is there a way to add those files to the alx to avoid manual loading?

Thanks

Didn't quite work on my Pearl - it did add Hebrew to the UI (menus can be set to appear in Hebrew), but not to the Input language, i.e., can't type in Hebrew.

menus are not really needed in hebrew (if someone can use a blackberry, englsh is not the issue). Does it solve the problems that name appear in reverse in contacts list (not when you open a contact) if they are in hebrew?

Anyone know if its possible to enter hebrew on the pearl as input language?

Thanks

There is typically a decision to make when installing a new firmware on the phone to allow multi-language support or just US -- in the US of course, however as far as if it actually will support Hebrew is beyond my scope. Most international phones should be able to do so but if the carrier is US specific, i.e. Sprint then its less likely to get that sort of support without doing some modifications to the firmware. ie Manual insertion of fonts and language packs.

i removed that file. too many morons were not following the instructions and i was getting nasty emails. (maybe i didnt write them well, either way i removed it)

too answer your other post in the rim software forum

what did i get myself into?

people pm-ing me all day

here
http://cheservices.com/blackberry/hebrew.jad
i am removing it later..........for 8830 only.
other devices need their own semitic font file.

you can also just edit your blackberry.alx file and add this into the list of files being loaded
net_rim_font_semitic.cod

or load it manually with the javaloader.

I guess people need your help with Hebrew as the carriers and Blackberry doesn't know how to make it work.

However, I'm sorry to bother you again. I guess I'm doing something wrong as it doesn't work...

I downloaded the .jad file and saved it on my computer
I was looking for the blackberry.alx file but it doesn't exist on my computer
I tried using the javaloader but it doesn't recognize the .jad file

My BB 8830 runs on V4.2.2.123 (Sprint)
My BB Desktop Manager ver is 4.3

Can you please show me the way?

Your help is much appreciated!

MNBB, a jad file is for loading directly from your BB browser. Point your BB browser to that address and download from there to your BB... it will install.

I don't know about the SMS, this is not my field, I'm just the goy here.

One suggestion, MNBB, save this jad file to your PC. If you ever change BB devices, you will want this file again.

JSander / Nextel User - I know it's not a language issue but it seems you know your way around BB...
Is there a way to use BB8830 as a fax? Send any document to a fax machine?

Thanks!

And more in the FAQ (had you looked there?)
Faxes To & From BlackBerry - BlackBerryFAQ.com

Good luck.

Thanks. I did check the FAQ and read through the threads but couldn't find the 'perfect' solution.
I should have been more specific. I am not a heavy fax user and I just need it every now and then. So basically what I am looking for is a free or one time fee installation with a per use pay.
All the applications I found want a monthly fee (and some a per use fee on top)..
