Default Body Shield or Pouch?

Please Login to Remove!

I can't figure out what would be the best protection option for my Pearl.

Should I go to get one of those scratch protectors from ShieldZone (Invisible Shield) or should I get a pouch to carry it in? The holster looks weird to me.

I just hate having things of my belt feeling like Robo Cop. What would you guys recommend? Also would suck if I won't notice it vibrate or hear it ring because of the pouch.

I would recommend a shield, it protects your phone with or without any other protection. You can still get a pouch for it after you apply the shield.

However, if you only get a pouch, you will still have the risk of scratching it without a shield.

Yea I mean I like carrying it in my pocket, instead of in a belt holster... because its so much smaller than the previous 8700 I had which I liked carrying in the holster - it didn't look so weird.

If I get the shield, will it protect against keys and other metallic objects from scratching the phone or messing with its buttons?

there are two options:

1. Best Skins Ever RIM BlackBerry 8100 Pearl Total Body Skin

2. BlackBerry Pearl 8100 Full Body Shield

if you get the BSE, it protects the whole phone besides the two chrome sides and the keyboard.

if you get the InvisibleShield, it comes with more pieces that protected the whole phone besides the keyboard.

Yes, it protects your phone from any scratches for the protected parts. The only draw back I have with the shield is it catches lint and all you need to do is just wipe it off.

I have the Blackberry pouch for the Pearl. I dumped it because it's a real pain to get the phone out of your pocket and then have to take it out of the pouch before you answer it. If you only make/receive a couple calls a day it'll probably be fine, but if you use your phone a good amount you'll probably end up not liking the pouch.

Do a search of the forum "BSE" for Best Skins Ever and/or "ShieldZone" to check out that product. I prefer getting three sets of Best Skins Ever for $21, shipped. That way you have some spares.

Be aware that the skins only protect the phone against scratches. They will NOT protect the phone should you drop it.

Since you do not want to wear the phone on the belt, I would suggest you look into a hard plastic case or form fitted silicone rubber skin, such as the Body Glove. BB and Seidio also sell those rubber skins.

You will lose some of the Pearl's small form factor when using a silicone rubber skin, but IMHO it is just a matter of time before you drop the Pearl. When you do drop your Pearl you will be glad you have a rubber skin on the phone.

Here are some skins on eBay:

eBay - rubber skin pearl 8100, Accessories, Parts, Cell Phones PDAs items on eBay.com

Bonus Tip: For lack of a better description you want to look for a smooth silicone skin, one that is not sticky. The porous or sticky ones do not insert or remove from a pocket too easily.

Are the OEM rubber skins on eBay slick or are they sticky? I want to get one because they have a variety of colors, but I was told the silicon ones are easy to remove from the pockets.

Let me know. Thanks!

i love the pouch, the OEM leather BB pouch, its a good size, it fits everywhere and it makes it easy for me to know where it is...plus it's great protection. it is a little bulky for a pocket, but im a girl so i tend to keep it in the cellphone pocket of my purse or bag...but its no bigger than a wallet or a billfold for a guy...

Default ShieldZone

i would go with the ShieldZone full body protector. i use that on my phone right now and it works great. i dropped it a few times already and there is nothing messed up on my phone. the only parts of my phone that loook damaged is the part that i missed when putting on the side protectors, but i dropped it yesterday and didn t notice till just right now lol. i have the holdster too. i had the full body protector on my last phone (the sidekick 3) and it too protected it excellent, only spot that had any sign of damage after a drop was where the screen protector wasn t on.

been doing some searches on ebay for silicone skins that will protect the entire phone, then add a screen protector onto it....

eBay: CLEAR GelSkin SILICONE Case for Blackberry PEARL 8100 (item 200127923549 end time Jul-17-07 19:19:51 PDT)

my question: does a silicone skin interfere at all with bluetooth or antenna reception ?

I thinking about going with the pouch that SanFrancisco said in another post. Looks like a goos case. Easy in easy out. Also has sleep magnet to put phoen into sleep mode.

i already have a speck hardshell on mine and like the drop protection on it. since i ruined my pearl via self mutilation (i dismembered the trackball assembly), i have a new one arriving in the mail in a few days. before i even touch it, i am considering getting either the BSE or the Invisible Shield. i checked out the video on invisible shield's site. it seems easy enough, but i am having trouble picturing how the install will go with the pearl, since there'll be alot more pieces than there was with the ipod in the video.

do you have pics so i can see the actual pieces you put on your pearl ?
i'm thinking doing the invisible shield + a full silicone glove (with keyboard covered). that should be enough protection for me and keep 95% of the dust out.

I am using BSE and a pouch right now. Ultimate protection! There was a period when I just had the skin, and my pearl fell out of my pocket. Of all the places it could have landed on, the pearl made contact with the cement on the side rails.

that's gotta hurt.....

i must say i'm impressed with the speck hardshell i bought. but it is a hardshell, and it gets scratched. after a while and some drops it looks bad but it protected my device really nicely. also, frequently taking the device out of a snap-on case will lend to some minor scuffing on the phone where the case snaps to.

i am unsure about going with the invisible shield, because it's probably alot of pieces and i think i can get away with a gelskin + screen film.....

the trick with silicone cases as well as hard shell protective cases is strictly a hands-off policy. take the device out of the protective shell/skin only once a month (or 2) to clean out dust/etc....and you will have a pristine pearl.

I used to buy cases for phones all the time until I realized with the pearl that I don't NEED any case for it because I should just be careful and it looks beautiful without any protection!

But many people do need cases because of lack of pockets or whatever and I would choose a body shield over a case. If you drop the phone than it's not protect if you don't have a shield!

I had a BSE body skin on my Pearl with the original BB leather belt pouch & had no problems (ignoring the Batman/Robocop comments).

I started with a Seidio silicone skin & putting it in my pocket, but stopped that practice after a few accidental emergency calls. I tried the OEM pouch, but was uncomfortable with it bouncing & shifting around my pocket throughout the day. I agree with aaronk that having to remove the pouch from my pocket & then removing the Pearl from the pouch became annoying fast.
