Angry No insurance offered for 8100 w/ AT&T?!

Please Login to Remove!

So please explain. I called AT&T to get insurance for my 8100 that I bought less than a month ago. The sales person at the corporate store forgot to offer it (so I thought).
Imagine my surprise when I was told that no insurance was offered with smartphones. I asked about LockLine... and was told that Asurion(sp?) bought LockLine out and did not offer insurance thru AT&T. I was told to contact RIM about insurance options...
So I just asked the lady why insurance was offered for the free phones, and not a smartphone that costs anywhere from $400-600 to replace. The lady just said that's the way it is.
So: What do I do about insurance?!

Wow. No insurance or a crippled device. Doesn't sound like a winner no matter whether it's AT&T or Verizon.

Default Insurance for BB on Cingular/ATT

I've been a long time customer or Cingular(ATT) and they never offered insurance for the blackberrys. You just have to hope that if you encounter a problem that it happens within the first 12mo, which is the standard warrenty for the phone. I've had various issues here and there in the past and twice had my unit replaced without charge, only because it was within the initial 12mo of purchase.
It's also a reason for me to buy a phone off of here or eBay and insure it with "SquareTrade" or something similar, atleast you have some kind of protection.

Regards,

Moose

That is absolutely asinine. So there is NO way for me to insure this thing since I bought it from AT&T? When I was with T-Mobile I had my 8700g insured just fine thru LockLine or something like that. Are there companies that will just insure it even if it's not thru AT&T?

Default Check out this provider...

Safeware Coverage now available!

Just called and spoke with one of the reps. They are estimating confirmation of insurance for the Curve within the next few days since the unit is "relatively" new.

An "esitmated" cost, based on other "similar" units is $65.00/year or about $5.50 a month.

It may be worth looking into...

My AT&T rep tells me that they've discontinued insurance on all smartphone devices. You can no longer get insurance on smartphones...too many people break them. They're losing TONS of money on this insurance.

call your insurance agents. renters or homeowners. that's what i did. he scheduled my pearl on to my account. 30 bucks for the year and it covers the phone and all my accessories. no deductible. and if i have to make a claim, while the rate for the phone insurance might go up, it doesn't affect my other policy rates (i.e. car or homeowners) even though it's sort of under the same umbrella.

cool I may do this as well since with verizon you have to put the ins on when you sign up. And I chose not too because I didnt have an expensive phone.
