Default Where can I find OS version 4.2.0.73?

Please Login to Remove!

I accidentally uninstall/deleted the preinstalled plazmic theme reader when messing with my themes. I would like to reinstall OS version 4.2.0.73 that originally came with my phone hoping it would bring back the original theme reader.

Anyone can help? I can't find the OS version anywhere...

The 4.2.0.73 is not available for download anywhere that I can find. Unless someone can host it somewhere for you to download your best bet would be to call Cingular and see if they have it somewhere available to download. However, if you call them they may say you need to upgrade to their newer 4.2.1.96 OS. I will say that the 4.2.1.96 OS is quite stable and relatively bug free. It does have a couple but all in all it's a good version-far better than earlier versions of 4.2.1. I've been using it for several months.

Will the new version have it's version of theme reader? That's the only thing I've removed and it wouldn't be worth it for me to upgrade the OS if it doesn't include it. I'm pretty happy with the version that I have, it's just annoying that I can't load themes anymore.

Just downloaded the latest version but haven't installed it yet. Wish I can have the original OS so that I can go back to it in case things didn't work out with the new version. Would anyone with version 4.2.0.73 be kind enough to send me the file?

I kind of in the same situation. I have 4.2.0.71 on a new AT&T 8100 and want to install the new software but want to have a copy of the old OS incase things don't work the way I want it to. So does anyone possibly have AT&T OS version 4.2.0.71? Also is it even possible to go back to an older os? Any help for a new Blackberry user will be appreciated.

4.2.0.71 is not on the Cingular Download page anymore. Same suggestion....give Cingular a call and see if they have a link they can give you for it. If that doesn't work, there are some other carriers that use the same 4.2.0.71 OS. I don't know which ones off-hand. Use the link below and check with the other GSM carriers sites until you find the .71 version.

Is there a way to backup a OS before upgrading?

No. You need to download it from your carrier's website. If it's not available.... Someone will need to host it for you.

I uploaded both 4.2.0.71 and 4.2.0.73 to one of my freebie hosting spots -- get it while it's hot and/or they shut me down for too much bandwidth used.

- removed -

After downloading rename the end of the file from ".zzz" to ".exe" -- the hosting service seems to sniff the download and won't allow .EXE files to be grabbed, so I renamed them with the .zzz extension which works.

Thanks for hosting the files, but why is the file only 489KB instead of 68MB? If this works, I owe you one rivviepop, thanks!

Update:
Okay, I just tried running the file after renaming the extension...doesn't seem to work, looks like it runs into an "Error reading setup initialization file" problem.

It appears php0h.com stops the downloads after XXX amount, I just tried various times and got anywhere between 1 and 3 megs per click. I edited my post, sorry - doesn't look like I'll be able to help ya out.

what if I give you access to an FTP account? think you will be able to upload the file for me? It can easily take the size but it may take time...

Sure why not, PM me the details.

Note to the lurkers - please don't PM asking for it as well, this is a one-time shot for Knightt.
