| I highly recommend JiveTalk. It's not free but it's only a one time fee and it's a nice app. Search the forum for it and you'll find lots of info. It's quite popular. It uses data so no text fees. | | Offline

| You can setup accounts from AOL, GoogleTalk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger at this time. They can be added all in the one application.
You have to be IM'ing someone on one of those accounts. | | Offline

| With AIM, you can add SMS contacts using the +15555551212 format to your contact list and message them. They will be able to reply as well, so yes, this is an alternative to using SMS.
PS: You should work on your spelling. | | Offline

| EQO GREAT program. I just started using it, and love it! It doesn't give the home screen pop up message like JiveTalk, but it's pretty and works great. The new EQO Mobile | | Offline

| I've been using the EQO program for a few days, and I don't think it uses SMS. Whenever I've sent an IM, it'll show the data arrows on the top right corner. I have unlimited sms, so if it does, not a big deal. | | Offline

The EQO network uses the Internet to help connect your calls, meaning your calls, text messages and IM messages will use a small portion of your existing mobile operator’s data plan.

And i confirm that texting works with it. There is also IM+ which is overpriced, but has myspace support. The JiveTalk authors say myspace support is coming though. JiveTalk is $19, while IM+ is $49. IM+ is a ripoff because they sell the exact same program for the other platforms for $29. But us BB users get shafted by them. | | Offline
