Default No web browser on my Pearl? No service books either

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I bought a new BB Pearl which came with the corporate version of software.

I've activated a BIS account with T-Mobile UK and sent the service books but they never arrive. Been on the phone to TMO tech services for ages and they can;t work out why it's not working. They then discovered there is no web browser on my handset. This could be the reason why the service books aren't coming through the GPRS connection. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Sean

You won't have a web browser until you get service books, so keep talking to T-Mobile tech support.

Sean, Service Books come first, then the Browser (not the opposite).

Go to Options > Security Settings > General Settings. Scroll to bottom--is anything listed under Services?

It sounds like you DO have BlackBerry Data Plan. If so, you can try going to Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table and clicking to Register Now. Pull the battery and reboot the BB. See if the Service Books or Browser appears.

Hi

Thanks for your reply

T-Mobile have done the battery pull, requested service books from their BIS site and from the routing table but still no luck! JSanders, nothing under services either???

Thanks again

I actually had a similar problem. The first time, I tried a hard reboot and resending the services books, but that didn't work. So, I just went to the store and got a new phone. The second time, I downloaded the latest version of the OS software (find link in one of the first attention threads on this forum) to my PC, then used the download manager to update my pearl. This fixed my problem. Perhaps it will fix yours as well? Good luck!

Cheers,

Yes, I called and actiavted that a few hours before I had all of these problems. I previously had the 8700 on that account before I lost it and went to an N73 - now im back to BB as I can't do without it. So, yes it's set up!!

Any other ideas???

Thanks again

1- Give it more time if it has only been a few hours. I don't know what they told you , but activation can take several hours to a day.

What is the "corporate version of the software" you refer to in your first post? Do you mean you have a BES setup?

OK I'll wait to see if the book comes through.

On the side of the box, it has Service Version: Corporate and there is the BES Activation icon there too. Is it true that when the books come from T-Mobile BIS that the BES activation will disappear? I seem to remember that happening when I got the Prosumer version of the 8700 about a year back.

Ignore the BES activation icon. You will be using BIS. You might pull the battery and reboot the BB every hour or two, won't hurt it. Sometimes the Service Books are not noticeable until a reboot when they install.

Yes, you need a Blackberry Data Plan. You will get no browser without it. You won't be able to have push email either. That being said, it's possible that you can install Opera Mini Browser and be able to access the internet with that and your "data max" plan. You'll need the carrier APN/TCP settings for Cingular in order to make it work. you can find them at Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ
