Default 8100 Os: 4.2.1.164/4.2.1.101 - 07-05-2007, 08:22 AM

Hi,

Austria did it. 8100M_PBr4[1].2.1_rel164_PL2.3.0.80_A4.2.1.101

Release: 4.2.1.164
App Version: 4.2.1.101
Platform: 2.3.0.80

Download

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Edited Blackberry.alx for adding all vendor themes and LBS.alx for adding BBMaps to Cingular/AT&T devices can be found Here

Greetings from Germany

Would this affect anything on a Tmobile-branded phone? Meaning, should I wait for the Tmo version?

I have to see this to believe it, lol. Not that i don't trust you but im just anxious to try it, i missed the ability to MultiTap.

Thanks for the observation and one of the most annoying bugs.

P.S. How about the dropped calls issue? I was getting dropped calls from left to right on 4.2.1.96.

Default Upgrading Troubles - 07-05-2007, 01:39 PM

I have several times tried to upgrade the firmware on my 8100 with the exact same results - whenever I make calls, they cut out for 10 seconds (or so) at a time and I lose portions of the conversation. I've tried 4.2.1.96, as well as the new firmware, and even exchanged my Pearl for a new one. I am running the latest desktop software, and have tried several battery pulls. The only firmware that doesn't cause conversation cutouts is the original 4.2.0.64 that came installed.

I'm on T-mobile, and the conversations cut out even when I have 4 bars and EDGE is available. Is it a problem with my firm's IT? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

There's a new theme - vodafone green - I'm loading it now.

EDIT: It looks like the green theme is the old vodafone today theme and the vodafone today theme is basically the same, except the coloring is slightly different. Nothing to get too excited about, IMO.

I will say that every OS update I've done has gone smooth until this one. It hung on 507 screen (no OS) and I had to start over. I didn't lose any data (it was in the auto backup) but I did lose all my 3rd party apps that I downloaded OTA. I had to reload them all again and register, etc.

I don't think it had to do with this specific OS, just stating that it's possible for things to go wrong, but rare.

When you say MMS problem, do you mean picture messages showing up as blank messages?

I am certainty hoping this comes with improved battery life as well...Charging every 1~2 days is not that convenient with v4.2.1.154 / 4.2.1.96. Fingers crossed.

My biggest issues with the last software I installed are fixed. I haven't found any new problems with this software so far.

I have no issues dailing letters.

My turn Bluetooth off icon is back.

I can select the stop and volume controls almost immediately when playing large videos.

It seems fixed in the initial dialing of the call, however if you need to enter letters after the call is connected, it still screws up! Arrrrrrrgggg.

Hi everyone. I am completely new to the blackberry world but so far so good. Today I installed this update without any problems but I noticed one thing that appears to be missing after: "Location Based Services" under the options menu. I want to enable the e911 service on the phone but I can not seem to figure it out and I would think it would be under that menu.

I have a T-Mobile 8100 so I did not have to install the modified LBS / Blackberry files as stated above... so my bb maps program works fine without them after. Did I make a mistake by not installing these files? Or is the activation for the e911 located in another place?

Thank you for any help you can provide!!

If I'm not mistaken, T-Mobile USA does not offer any location based services for any handsets; T-Mobile UK does, so perhaps DE and other markets might as well. I have never gotten any LBS or Cell Broadcast features to work on any device I've had with T-Mobile USA.

Regarding E911 - AT&T and T-Mobile opted to use a version of Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) tech 'which determines a phone's position by measuring the time a call reaches "location measuring units" inside a cell phone network base station.' (1)

What this means is they install software at the base stations, no special software/features are needed on a handset for it to work; the backend system uses a rudimentary method of tower triangulation to determine your physical location on the planet.

Hi all, I am new here.

Never owned a smartphone before, though a few years ago I owned several pda's, Palm and Handspring, but tired of carrying bulky stuff in my pockets along with my cell phone. Was literally dying for a smartphone the past several months.

I just got my T-Mobile Pearl from Amazon 3 days ago and love it so far. It was basically free with a 2 year contract with a $50 MIR! Unbelievable, I dumped my Verizon contract like a hot potato since they wanted a $125 deposit for me to assume liability of the contract another sponsored for me and their customer service was repeatedly atrocious. ATT wanted a $750 deposit the day before T-Mo accepted me for no deposit (sorry for that ramble, but I'm gushing over my good fortune).

Sooo, I'm wondering if it is worth it to upgrade the OS. I have Attention Deficit Disorder (the organizer and Calendar will be lifesavers) and complex tasks are several times more difficult for me to handle than the average bear.

So, unless there's a clear and compelling reason, I would rather not mess with it all.

Is it worth it?

I would recommend you leave it alone for now. If it's doing what you need it to do then I wouldn't worry about it.

Default Ugrading OS - 07-06-2007, 12:13 AM

First post so, sorry if it is a duplicate, but i have a couple of questions.
First, when upgrading os, do i need to do it in steps, or can i just go to the latest one.

Secondly, has anyone been able to get their Pearl to sync with a TomTom One v4? Just for speaker phone is fine if you can tell me how, but data is ideal.
And please not hit connect to my phone responses

Thanks.

I'm prolly going to ask everytime a new OS is "created", but.....

Does this version support A2DP? John Clark stated in a previous conversation that it probably wouldn't be enabled until the 4.2.2.x OS...but my fingers are crossed...

Thanks!!!
