Default 4.2.0.64 -> Current OS.. Worth it?

Please Login to Remove!

Is there some type of change list that I can view to see if its worth all the hassle of updating? Im running a tmobile USA 8100 with 4.2.0.64, and I've been reading the update thread; I dont know if its worth it.

Would someone please explain the difference to me?

No idea what the differences are. I am running .71 and no issues, so I don't plan to upgrade.

Here's a list I made a while back....there may be more.

1: Ability to separate sms/email
2. While typing the text stays highlighted while you're typing the word.
3. Other word choices for SureType now include italicised words that I assume are words that are not in the dictionary....just my guess.
4. The bug where if you delete multiple emails using shift/highlight the cursor doesn't stay in the right place has now been fixed.
5. There is a GPS menu item in Options--never has anything in it, even with BT GPS puck active.
6. Under Enterprise Activation in Options it now lists the status with date activated.
7. Network is now Mobile Network.
8. Included DST patch
9. Some videos that used to play, no longer play. ( fixed in later 4.2.1 versions)
10. Cingular theme is now AT&T theme.
11. Still No option for shooting videos.
12. Attachments no longer have table of contents. Just click open attachment and it opens right up. <-I like this one!
13. Automatic Backlight off option <--yea!
14. No "Save" option in Alarm Clock. Changes are saved immediately when made.
15. BBMaps updated
16. Under Mobile Network when manual is selected it automatically starts a search for networks.
17. It appears that 4Gb SD cards are now supported.

It also breaks some, if not most Bluetooth GPS connections within a couple minutes. I've upgraded to every 4.2.1.x iteration hoping they fix the problem, yet I keep finding myself back at 4.2.0.71.

That bug is fixed in 4.2.1.101 for the Pearl.

I had a bunch of the 4.2.1 updates and I have to say all the enhancements were nice additions. However, the last updated crashed my Pearl and I went back to the original TMobile .64. The best thing about being on .64 is that my calls NEVER drop like they did with most of the 4.2.1 updates.

I am tired of updating and I would honestly have an OS that does not disconnect my calls.

I think the Cingular versions (.71 and .73) may not have dropped the calls but my guess is that is because they were the old OS (4.2.0) as well.

I will NOT be updating until TMobile provides the next update!!!

I updated my new Pearl with the 4.2.0.67 software that I was using just before I killed my first Pearl back in December. Back then I tried a newer version than that and it had too many issues, and the stock 4.2.0.64 still had a serious memory leak. The 4.2.0.67 release seemed to be the best version at the time, and reading the problems that the newer versions are having I think I'll stay with it. My boyfriend's Pearl got updated to the latest OS (4.2.1.x) back in June and the dropped calls got to where he couldn't even use his phone, so I just downgraded him to the 4.2.0.67 release and his Pearl is fine now. I do want the enhancements that the new OS seem to provide but don't want to deal with the bugs people are reporting.

Memory leak issue can be resolved by unistalling or deleting unused pics, videos, apps, etc that come with the Pearl. Getting a MicroSD card helps a lot as any pics you snap or ringtones you add to the device memory will eat away and cause your memory leak issue.

For me its all about not having my calls dropped. .64 for me.
