Default How do I put on an older software version?

Please Login to Remove!

I had an 8100 that was using version 4.2.0.69. It broke and they sent me a replacement tha that has version 4.2.1.96. I have an 07 Mercedes that my original phone paired with and it was able to download my phone book. The new 8100 with the new system will sync but it will NOT download my address book to my car. I have done a ton of research and for some reason the new version is not working with mercedes. See link below. Someone else was able to roll back to the older version. How do I do that? I need to get back to 4.2.0.69?

Simply install the older version of the OS to the PC and when you plug in to Desktop Manager and run Application Loader it will allow you to downgrade.

And make sure you don't have any newer versions of the OS loaded on your PC--only the older OS.

It is enabled..I have gone through everything. I have found a few people with the same issue.

Where can I get the older version? And what is the process for doing it?

Cingular no longer offers that version. Use the following link and find a GSM carrier that offers that version for download. You may have to check a few before finding it. 4.2.0.71 should work just as well as .69 so I suggest that one. Since you're not using a "Cingular" released version be sure to delete the vendor.xml file after installing it to your PC. The other carrier's versions are the same and you won't notice any differences as long as you pick the version number you want.

Throw away the CD..

Assuming you have no BB software on your PC:

Download and install Desktop Manager from Here.

Download and install the OS package as I described above.

Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager.

Go to Backup/Restore and backup the device data.

When that is finished click on Application Loader.

It should read the software on the device and then in the window should show "Downgrade" for most of the device software.

Click Finish, Next or whatever the prompts say in order to finish the installation. Make sure you choose backup and restore all data. (The backup in the step above is just incase of a problem-an old habit of mine)

I stated that in post number 8. OS packages are not included on the CD. Only Desktop Manager. RIM releases updates of Desktop Manager quite often so that's why I said "throw the CD away." (You don't really have to throw away the CD, though)

@crazydude, "Device Manager" is included with Desktop Manager and gets installed along with Desktop Manager. You seem to be referring to "Device Manager" as if it's the OS package.

John,

When you say "Download and install the OS package as I described above."

The file is an .exe so once I download it I should run the .exe? That is how I'm able to get to remove that xml file?

Yes, that version will work just fine. Follow my instructions above.

Yes, run the file after you download it. Then the folder I mentioned above will contain the vendor.xml.

Ok so I will run the exe which will create a file structure it sounds like. I will follow the instructions. Once it starts working, how long will it take to put it on my peal? 20 minute process?
