Hey, I am a complete newbie to Blackberry. By playing with my phone the past few days, I've learned a lot and answered my own questions. However, there is something I finally must ask for help on.

I love having custom ringtones. I'm glad this feature is built in. Only, when I go to work, I set my phone to vibrate so that it doesn't go off in a loud ringer at inopportune times. So, on my way to work, I set my phone to VIBRATE. The problem is that all of those custom ringtones have been designated as "exceptions" to every profile. That's fine for Normal, Loud, etc. - but on vibrate I only want my phone to vibrate.

The only solution so far is to uncheck every single box (to disable the exceptions) after selecting vibrate. As you can imagine, this can get pretty annoying with a lof of customized ringtones. And then when I go back to a Normal profile, I have to recheck everything. I can't do this every morning.

Anyone know how to resolve this???

Have you actually had someone call you when your phone was set to vibrate and it played the custom tune?

I'm pretty sure that when you select a custom tune for a contact, the exception is set to use the "active profile". This means that if you set your profile to Vibrate, even if a custom tune is selected, it should not play if you have "Vibrate" selected from the Vibrate -> Phone settings. If you have Vibrate+Tone selected, it will play the custom tune.

Instead of selecting a custom tune from the address book, you can try adding an exception manually, selecting "active profile", and adding a contact to it, then selecting a tune.

Wow - I will feel pretty silly if that's the case! I didn't even try having someone call me when it was set to vibrate to see if it played their ringtone... I just assumed it would override the vibrate, because it says "Use Active Profile Except For"

I interpreted this as "Use the Vibrate Profile, unless one of these people calls, then we use your custom ringtone"

I will try it out and let you know.
