I have several mail accounts including work. I would love to find an app that would create separate tabs for each account and then allow me to create folders within each tab and have separate alerts for each account.

Anyone know of such an app? If there isn't one may I suggest to the app makers of the world that you get on it!

Yes, it is called the BlackBerry. This is inherent functionality of the Pearl. Not sure what it is not doing that you want.
