Another dumb question from a new Pearl user.

Got a really good theme (tricolour) - looks fantastic. But - the background is some sort of sleek black car shape. Did not want this do changed it for a black version of the BB background.

But...when I lock the keyboard it is still the "car" image on show.

Is there any way of changing this or is this theme controlled? The only option I see in the Media application is "Set as home page image" - nothing about locked image etc.

Yes, this is theme controlled I believe. I was playing around with the Plazmic Theme Builder and I believe you can set an image for the wallpaper of the locked screen page. That is probably what the author of this theme did.
