I have not yet purchased a micro card. Do I need to have this before I can transfer any music to my Pearl device??? I have transferred photos, but have not been able to transfer music

Memory is limited and there is a max filesize for files transferred to it. If you want some full songs and more of them then yes, you will want to get a microSD card. I am very happy with my 1gb, though more would be even better.
