I'm going to infer some things, so tell me if I'm wrong.
It sounds like you're a first-time BB user, which means you probably have a voice plan and a MEdia Net/Media Max/etc plan, maybe from your old phone. Or, you have a PDA data plan.
Basically, with at&t, the BlackBerry plans are different data plans.
With a BlackBerry, you'd want to have a voice plan and a BlackBerry data plan instead of your other MEdia Net package.
For example, I have the $39.99 voice plan, which gives me 450 minutes, 5000 nights and weekends, and unlimited mobile to mobile.
I also have the $39.99 "Blackberry Personal Max" which gives me unlimited data for web browsing and e-mail, plus 1500 SMS/MMS messages. To add to the confusion, you may see that plan advertised as being $44.99, but you get a $5 discount if you have a voice plan.
That's the type of thing you want to look at. If you call customer care, they may have trouble figuring out what you're talking about, some of the basic reps just aren't familiar with BlackBerry.
Hopefully that answers your question!
