First of all, I'd like to say hello. I'm new to this forum and I got my Blackberry 8100 today. Love it so far, just a little confusing. Hoping y'all can help


1) My contacts. I put my sim card in and had someone call me, their name and number showed up, yet my "address" book is empty. I don't see a contact list, is there a way to access it, since it's reading my SIM correctly?

2) Ringtones. I transferred a very plain ringtone from my computer to my phone, I set it as my ringtone, but when someoen calls, there's a very long pause in between rings. Is there any way to shorten it, or is it just the way the ringtone file is?

To get your sim card addresses you'll need to do the following:

Go to Address Book >click Menu key >Select Sim Phone Book >Click menu key and select "copy all to address book."

On the Ringtone, that's just the particular mp3. You'd have to edit the actual mp3 in another program to change it.

1-Go to address book and click the menu to SIM Phone Book. At that point you can copy them over to the BB Address Book, all or one at a time. You will want to do this, so you can edit your contacts and sync your BB back to your PC.

2-You can edit your ringtone in some software like Audacity, and reload it to your 8100.

Is there a reason why all of the contacts say Work? Can I change them all to Mobile, if possible?

No no, that is ok. JC is your "hero". lol

They will ALL import over from the SIM as work, because the SIM only allows one phone per contact, and since they are not designated, they import as work. You cannot alter that default. You can change them to mobile one at a time, or edit them in Outlook once you do your first sync to the PC.

You'd have to do it one by one. The BB works well if you sync with Outlook. You can edit contacts there and then sync to the BB.

You'll need to install the OS package to the PC. Then it will read it.

How do I do that?

Don't download the Desktop Manager from there, just the OS. Download the Desktop Manager from here:

Make sure the OS you download is the same as the one on your BB. Go to Options >About and check the version number. It'll start with 4.2....

By OS, you mean download the Handheld software option from T-Mobile? Then the CD will be read by my computer?

This is confusing.

The Desktop Manager version on the TMo site is old. Download and install that first from the link above. Then install the Handheld software from the TMo site to your PC. Then plug in the bb and run Desktop Manager. Then click on Application Loader. You'll then see the apps installed to your device.

OK, everything's installed. How do I load my contact lsit on Outlook so I can edit the contacts?

sync it, but before you do that open the sync in the DM(desktop manager), hit the config tab, select config synch, then select which ever outlook you are using and then select contacts. then go back and click sync now, then once done, go into outlook and edit all the contacts, then once done sync again and then once the screen pops up saying accept, cancel, rep-sync, select accept, and your done
