With the 8100 powered off, what color is the trackball?

Trying to determine is mine is filthy or it supposed to be that color.

It's a flat, dull light gray color. But if it is not dirty, there should not be any black in the color and you can kinda see a translucence, meaning you can see inside it, just a little. That is why when NOT lit it is NOT white, as compared to the white light when it is lit.

Not saying mine is the cleanest out there, but here is mine after 10 months:

It is white when the light is on. and gray with the power off. Is there a way to clean it?
