Default Pending SMS Messages Time Out with 4.2.1.103

Please Login to Remove!

This has been an issue with all the 4.2.1 series OS'. When attempting to send an SMS in an area of no wireless coverage 4.2.0.xx and prior OS' would hold the message in a queue and send it when service was available. 4.2.1.xx and above simply time out with a huge red X. WTF!?

To me this is one of the BEST Blackberry features. Although 4.2.1.103 seems otherwise rock solid, I am still considering rolling back.

Does anyone have any information on this? I spoke to a tech on the Blackberry support line and was told that the a text or email message should become pending whenever you are out of range. Upon returning to the coverage area the messages should automatically be sent. The extra step of resending each message is huge and takes away two of the greatest features of a blackberry which are working offline and treating email and text just the same. Has RIM acknowledged this bug? Is there anyplace to submit a bug report? Is there a fix/patch forthcoming?

I have this same issue on my Pearl. My OS version is 4.2.1.107.

It gives error of "Protocol error" when it fails. It never did this before.

This is a known issue (here) with the sms messages in 4.2.1. Whether or not RIM knows about it is another story. There are quite a few bugs in 4.2.1 that have not been worked out.
