3rd party apps is the hardest to backup, but it can be done.

First thing I usually do is a backup using Desktop Manager. It will save all your contacts, text messages, etc. as well as settings for what theme you were using(note that this will not backup any third party apps including themes) and what picture is set to your background and all that.

Then I backup my 3rd party apps as a lot of them can be hard to find again. If you would like to know how, just ask and I will write up a tutorial for it.

After everything is backed up I use JL_CMder to wipe my blackberry clean. This isn't necessary, I don't believe. I just like it. After it's done your phone will have a white screen with some shapes and a number (507 i think).

Then I uninstall the old pearl operating system from my computer if I haven't already done so and I install the new one I want to use.

Then I hook up the pearl (still on the white screen with shapes and number) and run Desktop Manager's App loader to load the OS files checking the languages I want and the notes app and password saver app, etc. if wanted. Then after it's done let it sit there and run the hourglass for however long it needs to until I see the homescreen

Then I reinstall all of my 3rd party apps.

Then I do a restore of the backup file that the backup made.

Bada Bing Bada Boom! All Done.

man ... this sounds tougher then it really should be ... can i just back up everything using the device on the desktop manager ... upgrade the operating system ... and re-install any 3rd party software ...

the only 3rd party software that i have is the colorperal .... (changes the color of the trackball) ...

so should i be alright if i do this:
back up files (contact/address/appointment/etc) do system upgrade ... let it sit ... good to go ... upload anything that needs to be uploaded ...

also, would tmo cs help me if i run into any problem while doing so ... this won't neccessarly void any insurance/warranty i have on the phone would it ...?

Just follow the directions in their download section.

For you it should be easy.

Just install DM and the newer operating system and hook your phone up and run DM's App Loader. It will do the upgrade.

You might need to do a backup first, then a restore afterwards. I'm not sure, though.

You will need to reinstall color pearl.

Right.

Installing DM on your pc will allow you to connect your pearl to your pc.

Installing the pearl Operating System on your pc will give DM's App Loader access to the files so it can load them to your Pearl.

Sometimes it takes a few tries as you might run into problems like getting disconnected. If so it might be kind of frustrating and take a little time, but if you do run into problems there are many people here who can help. Also the search feature works great and you could probably find all the info you will need if you search enough.

Make sure you do a backup first!!
It always sucks losing all your contacts and stuff!!

No, Sim Card can stay in your phone. I just finished up my upgrade and it was easier than I thought. Just go over to the BB FAQ's and follow the 7 easy steps. Here's the link:
