Default device stores calendar entries - WHAT?

Please Login to Remove!

what up guys ... i can't seem to find the option to set how long my device store calendar entries ...

here's the process that i'm seeing on all documents to show me how to do it ...

Set how long your device stores calendar entries
1. In the calendar, press the Menu key.
2. Click Options.
3. Set the Keep Appointments field.
4. Press the Menu key.
5. Click Save.
Your BlackBerry® device deletes calendar entries that are older than the number of days you set.
To restore calendar entries, set the Keep Appointments field to a longer period of time. Calendar entries that you received on your BlackBerry device within the set period of time appear in the calendar.

this is right from the pdf document titled: Blackberry 8100 User Guide

am i missing something ... i do store alot of reoccuring events so if i set this up ... does the reoccuring event that happened in the past get deleted too ..? help !

I don't see the menu options the way you do (no keep appointments). But I set calendar sync options in DM--i.e. How far back in days and how far in future to keep on the BB. All will still be in Outlook. Just controls what is sync'd with handheld. Does that help?

That option is present on both my 8700 and 8800. I read another user say yesterday he did not have the Keep Appointments for XX days either. Odd, must be an OS thing.

I assume for those who do have the option on the device, that it works same way? Only effects entries on the handheld. Past calendar entries stay in Outlook or whatever on the desktop when you sync?

I do believe so. I have a number of recurring appointments in Outlook that don't get deleted.

also ... how to you sync with ms outlook at home ... is there anything i have to do manually to set it up with outlook ... everytime i sync, it's giving me this problem that it can't sync becuase of an unknown error ... WTH!

As AI mentioned, can't you set the appointment range in your sync options. I don't know why it is not on your BB. It could be an OS version discrepancy, as it is an option on two of my 8700 and 8800.

At home, make sure you have Desktop Manager loaded, latest version 4.2 SP 2.

To sync with PC, you'll need Desktop Manager (DM) installed on the PC. You may already. If not, download from your carrier or RIM--see FAQ for links.

From DM, launch sync and navigate to the setup sections, and go from there.

In DM sync setup, make sure for each element (tasks, calendar, etc) that you point to Outlook. Make sure that the correct folder is listed. Make sure the radio button for synchronize is checked and not one of the others. Some where you can check to sync when connected; otherwise you must start sync manually.

i dont even have the option to config sync ... all it's saying is 'unknown error' whatever that means ... it won't even give me a reason to the error ...

So DM launches ok, but you get error when you click on the sync icon? If that's the case, does it make a difference whether your BB is connected or not when you click on sync, as far as the error occurring.

As I recall (not at my PC) you must be connected to get the sync settings windows, but the top sync window should open without BB connected. Curious if it will do so without error.

Someone will hopefully have better idea, but if it were me I'd reinstall DM and tell it to fix errors, or uninstall DM, reboot, and reinstall. Do both (repair or uninstall) using the installation progam. You'll get the various options when you run it.

dm launches ok ... no error ... backup and app loader is running alright also ... it's only the sync thing that's giving me an error ... dm should be the latest one ... got the upgrade from tmo when i was going to download the new os for pearl ... everything is connected before i sync ... i just get an unknown error message ...
